You are surely correct, but the Dems mock the Laffer Curve. It is what Reagan used to set his policies, and probably Trump. In short, at some point, the more you collect the poorer you get as people don't have a will to work when the state takes most of the money anyway. Meanwhile taxing a smaller percent can mean bringing in more.
A lot of people are fleeing the State- unless you're wealthy and don't mind shitty weather for 4 months or so out of the year, it makes zero sense to retire in NYC, Long Island, or most of upstate.
