Also their jobs in "peacetime" as it were are vastly overpaid because of various barriers to entry - e.g. certificate of need laws etc. - and those same barriers to entry are the reason we have limited healthcare capacity in the first place.
So do rent-seeking by suppressing capacity for decades, live high on the inflated wages, then complain of being over-worked when they're actually needed.
