Is Facebook the public square? I believe it is, particularly under current circumstances. In which case everyone gets to post what they want (within reason).
Personally, I think it's time for some subterfuge a la "The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society"
Don't form public groups on FB. Invite only.
Or use another medium. An app or an old school private message board.
Back to email lists and maybe even snail mail I guess. Could also try WhatsApp or similar.

Yes but it's encrypted and more difficult for someone to penetrate. In other words it's harder for someone with bad intent to join a group.

If anyone still believes that Facebook doesn't have the master keys to read and/or turn over any message on there, that person is soft in the head.

Even so, pick another platform that suits you. WhatsApp was a suggestion. Most of my Spanish speaking friends use it.
