Chloroquine or hydroxychloroquine ?

Most doctors are using the hydroxy - the side effects are supposed to be lighter.

It is hydroxyl. They just drop the l to make it pronounceable.
It literally is an -OH group. My organic-chem is rusty but I believe that makes it easier for the drug to be filtered out of your system.
(A lot of times you'll see a drug-HCl. That is done to make it soluble in water.)

So the Hydro-Oxy part is Hydrogen Oxygen (like Water without the other Oxygen)..

the distinction is very important. they started to publish bad stories about Chloroquine.
