I agree with the decision to halt all immigration right now. Trump signing this EO is some serious political strategy and will in turn hasten the opening of our country.

So don’t come at me with “shill” comments. Trump did the right thing and IMo, he should have done this 2 months ago

I would like to argue that it shouldn’t be permanent. I’ve been seeing a lot of comments in this community like “if you’re pro immigration you’re anti America”. Or, “end immigration forever”. Things like that. Come on guys, thats some bullshit.

My family came here from Italy in the late 1800s. Settled in Baltimore. My great grandfather worked on the railroads during the industrial revolution. Both my grandfathers fought in WWII. We come from a long family history of loving this country and if it wasn’t for immigration, we would still be in Italy. I’m sure a majority of people on this sub have similar family histories.

My point is this, obviously the laws need to change with our immigration system. Not everyone should be allowed into our country. It should be based on merit, the love of our country and nothing else. But to say “end immigration forever” or “if your pro immigration you’re anti-American” makes you sound like a lib screaming that everyone is racist.

There’s some grey people

The military needs to landmine the border.

Dude. This was purely to fuck with Cuomo, Murphy and newsome. No more, no less.

Trump has an art of racheting up the crazy. You want to lock all of your state's citizens in their houses until every case of the Chinese flu is gone? Fine, I'll suspend immigration.

Also puts the media in a horrible double bind too. You know they'll want to bitch about it, but it will be hard to do that and criticise republican governors for ending their lockdowns at the same time. I'm sure the true idiots like Fredo will bitch about both, but the smarter shills like tapper will realize they can only credibly pick one.

And he did it now as the cases are declining (and not six weeks ago) for a reason. And that reason is that blue state governors are actually coming out with MORE restrictions as the threat has diminished. Which is insane.

If the Dems were smart (they're not), they would largely ignore this EO. But they just can't help themselves. And trump knows that.

Art of the deal.

Oh yeah 100%. It’s a political move by Trump that will shed light on the pettiness and fakeness of the media/Dem party. I do think it will also catalyze the opening of states with weak leadership. They’re running out of excuses

My argument wasn’t against this EO, just about some comments I’m seeing that I don’t agree with.

This post will do nothing against those comments or how this community views anything, but writing it and posting it was cathartic lol

Yeah, I get it. Nothing wrong sharing your thoughts with fellow patriots

A few points and I know some of these points do not relate to your post.

  1. The first people to come here from Europe were not immigrants. They were settlers. Leaving a developed nation state to build a life in a wilderness is not immigration. The overwhelming majority of them were English, German and Dutch.

  2. During the 1800s and very early 1900s the country was in desperate need of people. The country was huge and largely undeveloped. The immigrants that came here then were almost all from European countries. That is to say Christian democracies. They were VERY compatible with the culture of America as it existed then.

  3. The United States of America is not the same today as it was in the 1600s through early 1900s. It has evolved and its needs in regard to immigration have evolved. We do not have a desperate need for people any longer. We certainly do not have a need for people from cultures that are totally incompatible with our culture.

I completely agree with all 3 of your points. Settlers aren’t immigrants. Our country is different now than what it was 100 years ago and a majority of people came from Europe.

That’s all true.

I guess I just don’t understand the attitude on here about immigrants. I understand we don’t need people like we used to, but I would argue letting in a couple thousand immigrants a year that are good honest hardworking people would be a good thing. When trump came down that escalator and gave his speech, he never said anything about legal immigration. It was always illegal immigration. I just don’t agree with the “ban immigration forever” sentiments I’ve been seeing lately on here.

Regardless, god bless

I do not have a huge issue with legal immigration either.

I have an issue with immigrants that hate the USA coming here from countries that hate the USA.

The immigrants that came from Italy and Ireland etc in the past wanted to come here and be Americans and were grateful for the opportunities that America offered.

I don't believe we are getting that type of immigrant much anymore. Until we can sort that out, I am in favor of stopping ALL immigration. Not necessarily permanently but for as long as it takes.

Will never happen, of course.

I haven't heard a lot of people saying it should be permanent. Actually I haven't none.

But he is a genius for it as it pressures the Pedocrats to reopen completely and he will use that time to reform it.

Legal immigrants become illegal. They get a green card and never go back. Thats a loophole that needs to be patched.

My bad, you're right. They use the work permit and never leave.
