It's not that the OP doesn't understand, but they (like many) are disgusted by the choice to just throw it all in the garbage instead of coming up with a better solution.
I am still experiencing shortages in stores on milk and eggs. You can't tell me there isn't a higher demand. There should be some kind of effort to temporarily redirect the supply chains so that all of the time and money of these farmers isn't completely wasted, not to mention just the moral bankruptcy of letting totally good food rot for no good reason.
