NYC is the one US city I have been to where this seems to be the case. It's like its own little nationalist country within the US, that also hates the US. In LA they at least care about what is happening in the other coastal cities and wine country. NYC acts like it's an independent nation completely non-reliant on anywhere else
Not only that, many of those who willingly live in NYC spend so much money on their insane rents and prices that they can't even afford to travel outside the concrete jungle
Once you get outside of Manhattan and gentrified parts of Brooklyn, a solid majority of white voters in New York City vote trump. They are just totally drowned out by the minority and immigrant vote in Brooklyn and Queens. Staten Island went red and will again in November.
Ive lived here my whole life. Im familiar with things. You are correct that the City is a millstone. Westchester is worse than Long Island. My point is that there a ton of red voters downstate but just not enough to overcome the minority and immigrant vote. The stereotypical crazed lunatic wealthy liberal in manhattan and brooklyn is a real thing, but they are still outnumbered by those that are not. We are just kind of silent and hidden. I know way more trump supporters than not. And i live 15 miles from midtown. But the republican areas tend to isolate and cluster by income and job type. So its a biased sample. Take the New York times voter map from 2016 down to the precinct level and overlay against the racial makeup of new york neighborhoods and the correlation is actually shocking. White middle class and upper middle class voted for trump. Minorities and secular jews voted for Hillary.
Also, where did the money for bio-terrorisim prevention went? NYC received billions after 9-11 for such event. Why isn’t the press asking this question?
