Telling people to take vitamin C is now controversial?
Man, I remember as far back as grade school (late 80s/early 90s) I was being told I should drink a glass of orange juice a day because vitamin C strengthens your immune system.
People have been saying for a long time that vitamin C cures the common cold. It doesn't. That's misinformation. What it does do is reduce the likelihood you'll develop a complication like pneumonia.
In terms of it's overall benefits, it has a ton, but they're mostly long term. Vitamin C is great, but it's something to include in your diet (or supplements) all the time, it shouldn't really be expected to help you very much when you're already sick.

Apparently this is going to be problematic now.
