The Confederacy was fighting for State/Citizen freedom from the heavy-handed RULE of the Federal Government. The War was not about "slavery", that's an historical falshood, used to make the Union, the winners, who write the history books, look good. The Confederacy, ironically, was about LIBERTY, while Silicon Valley is, like all the Communist Left, all about the Money, Status & Power of the Elites at the expense of regular citizens, whom they wish to RULE.

Slavery was actually practiced in the North, and all over the world at the time. While decent people abhor it today, it was not an aberration then. And the South, like the rest of the civilized world, would have outlawed it voluntarily in due time.

Lincoln is NOT one of my favorite Presidents. Credited with "saving the Union" and "emancipating the slaves", he, in fact, enslaved all the citizens of every Confederate State...against their will.

I, of course, realize this is not exactly a popular opinion...

Slavery was a worldwide institution of the time. I will not single out and judge a particular group of people of that historical time because they engaged in it.

Hanging, beheadings, impaling & frying people in electric chairs have been common methods of execution historically. Torture was common in prison and in war. In America, we don't do any of these any more. But that we did at one time in history, does not make us an evil people.

Don't judge the past by the present. It is a false comparison.

Mass murder, genocide and other atrocities engaged in by evil men of history DO NOT FALL into this category when they acted in defiance of the mores of their time for political/personal power. The Hitlers, Stalins, Maos, etc. of the world fall into this category.
