Until we get some prelim results from a true random double blind prospective trial, all these studies are potentially tainted with bias. That includes the various studies showing HCQ to be helpful, and this one suggesting it has drawbacks.
All it takes is a biased researcher, or the medication only being given to sicker patients, and the result doesn’t reflect reality.
Personally I would still want the regimen were I to be hospitalized with the Chinese flu.
