Guess what? People die. Every damn day. From all sorts of routine activities, like driving a car, or traveling by bus, train or plane. They die from falling as they get out of the shower or tub, or by setting their houses on fire inadvertently. Many die from drug abuse. They forget about safety on the job. All tragic, but we don't reorder society because of it. OK, we can pass common sense safety regulations, with which I agree, but we don't shut down the global economy because of it.
People can die from years of bad habits (as I sit here sipping my bourbon dipping some Skoal) because they make rational decisions--OK, maybe not so rational, if I have another bourbon--about risk vs. reward. I'm 53. I'm going to die of something, someday. I could give up every pleasure and vice and still get run over by a truck tomorrow. Bourbon and dip may not be the healthiest lifestyle, but I work out 5X or 6X per week, don't smoke, wear my seatbelt, and eat my fruits and vegetables. The point is, my lifestyle is my choice. And when I die, even if it was accelerated by those choices, I will accept that as my personal responsibility.
My mom smoked from age 16 to age 80, until she got Alzheimers and forgot she smoked. She's 84 now. I'm absolutely certain smoking gave her immense satisfaction for those 64 years. She drank a lot, and enjoyed that too.
Yeah, she may still get lung cancer from smoking all those years, or cancer related to alcohol, and either one may kill her. She has mild COPD, so she is at high risk from any respiratory infection, not just COVID-19. At her age and health, just about anything could kill her. Ascetic monks living on mountains die too....
Since when is it government's job to protect us from death? Since when can ANY political leader, party, or governmental program "prevent death."
We have all lost our collective minds. SMDH
Edit: I don't blame GEOTUS for saying this--he has to! He is backed into a corner; either he's the pro-death, anti-science President who is ignoring Fauci and Birx, or he is the one who will be blamed for overreacting, and shutting down our economy--that's the next pivot. He can't win, so he tried to call their bluff with an all-out response. It's the petty power being exercised by every Dem Governor or local official I am calling out here, with their pious virtue-signaling. Just to be clear, I support our President 100%.
Edit #2: Concern trolls here are saying GEOTUS' guidelines are akin to a national lockdown order. As far as I know, the only quarantine President Trump implemented was for suspected SICK people returning to the United States.
Democratic state Governors implemented "Stay at Home Orders," not our President. There was never a national "Stay at Home" order. After Inslee and Newsom, they fell like dominoes, because the political cost to them to resist the hysteria was too great. Now watch which states open up first...
This tide of "prevent just one death" virtue signaling bullshit washed over our country as a concerted attempt to wreck our amazing economy, and GEOTUS' inevitable landslide reelection.
Confusing a Presidential "Guideline" with an "Order" from a Governor, Mayor, or county official is weak-minded.
Those who would sacrifice liberty for security deserve neither.
The point is they are sacrificing liberty for nothing
The recession will cause more deaths than the virus. Especially in the developing world, where people won't be getting checks from the government. But pampered leftists living cushy lives in the west care a lot more about Orange Man Bad than they do about that
Leftists don't care about reality, they care about appearance.
Those who would sacrifice my liberty for the lives of others deserve....wait that doesn't sound as reasonable.
Rational risk choices, idiot. The risk of driving through a school zone at 100 mph is not rational. What's the risk vs. reward of that decision?
I don’t have a Constitutional right to drive 100mph by passed a school faggot. But I do have one to leave my house go about my fucking business.
It has everything to do with it, moron. Driving 100 mph through a school zone has a very high probability of depriving other citizens of the unanalienable right to life, enshrined in our Declaration of Independence, which is why rational adults support laws reducing speed in those areas. I support and obey those laws.
The point of my post, which clearly you don't understand, is that if we allow government to control every aspect of our lives, we will give up fundamental personal liberties which do not impinge on those of others.
Quarantine is for sick people. Lockdowns are for governmental overreach, and deprivation of fundamental rights. Using your logic, don't ever get behind the wheel of a motor vehicle again, because you may deprive someone of their right to life.
Go back to Reddit, you feeble-minded concern troll. You are not MAGA, not in the least.
Well said!
the only people getting “deprived” are people over 80 (and they’re half way out the door already) and those who are fucking fat or have comorbidities. They can stay the fuck inside and anyone else who lets fear control them can stay the fuck home, too. Meanwhile, all the healthy young adults who have basically a 0 chance of dying from this can prevent the economy from crashing by going back to work, which is way more of an issue than corona in the long run.
GeT yOuR hEaD oN sTrAiGhT
It’s implied retard. You’re European aren’t you?
Liberty means that which I’m legally entitled to and not the things I’m not explicitly entitled too. State and local laws are different and are acceptable in a democratic society given they do not contravene the inalienable rights recognized by the Republic. Of course I wouldn’t expect one to inherently understand liberty and the laws that govern it if one were a eurofag, which you are.
This is exactly what the idiot Dem Governors are trying to do--tell you explicitly what you are allowed to do. There are no laws that tell you what you are allowed to do, only what you are prevented from doing. That's why it's called "breaking the law." Our problem today is that people have become used to governmental regulations, rules, and control which deprive them of their liberty. GEOTUS understands this, which is why he is trying to roll all that back.
In the US, liberties are often associated with the Bill of Rights seeing as it enshrines our god given rights to life, liberty, self defense, speech etc. so ya...it’s very much implied 🤝
absolutely. any death is unfortunate and tragic but we cant hold the world hostage because a handful die of this virus. There are very good reasons why they died and it has nothing to do with social distancing bullshit, masks or whether they were put in a crowd recently
Bro, I am with ya. We need to reopen the country and all people at risk whether via pre-existing medical conditions or age risk should be allowed to still stay home. I have been working this whole time. I am fortunate and I truly feel for those that are fucked right now. I just hope the next wave of death is not via suicides. The government cannot print money forever without drastic economic repurcussions.
edit- added word
The left fighting to safe just one life.
Also the Left, abortion isn't death.
Well said! Couldn't agree more. How the left wraps their feeble minds around these hypocrasies astounds me!
A FB poster who commented the protesters in PA were "embarassing and disgusting" said "Protect those who cannot protect themselves" ...I simply replied TFW abortions are considered essential. She goes omg thats another debate. I said no it exposes your flaw in logical thinking and shows you have zero principles.
BOOM. We have a conundrum!
Sounds like life. Sans depriving others of their life and liberty, they can take the "just one life" argument and shove it up their pro-abort arse.
Today was the big tell. He called out that reporter and said "One death is too many. And I always say that because of reporters like you"... He knows that if he says "people die every day" then the media will scream "gotcha!'
Agreed! Just edited OP to respond.
Just to be clear though---- I was thinking the same thing until today when I heard that comment... :-D
Fewer people have died in 2020 than this point in 2019. More people died from the flu in the 2018-2019 flu season than will die from COVID in 2020.
This isn't about saving lives. Its about creeping fascism. Moving the Overton window on civil rights. Sabotaging Trump's economy and pushing for voter fraud is just a cherry on top. The true goal is continuing to subjugate the American people.
Yes. And when you are looking to feed your family or pay your mortgage/rent, with your back up against the wall, you might just listen to an idiot like AOC or Creepy Joe, or whatever surrogate they put in his place.
Well said.
What dont these people understand that an economic depression kills?
There will be a cost in life from increased divorce, suicide, drug and alcohol abuse, theft, mental health instability. Humans weren't made to sit in bunkers and wait for nonDr Gates to make sure the population is low enough for them to come out
I mentioned back at the beginning of March to anyone who would listen- I'm glad (although I hate being right because of the damage) people are starting to mention this- especially people with a social media platform that can shine a light on the awful, and quite possibly worse, collateral damage that this bullshit is causing/will cause.
They've likely prevented vastly more automotive related deaths than virus related deaths with this lockdown.
Better not tell them or we'll never be allowed to drive again. /s
Of course they dont care about those casualties because they can't be politically weaponized.
They don't want us to drive anymore. That's why they are pushing self-driving cars so much!
Social media in my area is already about 1/4 "isn't this great, the air's already cleaner and so many cars are off the road" posts, followed up by "we really should be ticketing anyone in their cars for anything non-essential" comments, followed by a couple "they had the right idea in Wuhan - this lockdown is fake" entries.
"If we can prevent just one death, it's going to be Ruth Bader Ginsberg." - Dems
Best reply so far!
We need to mandate all vehicles have a maximum speed of 10mph because of the lives it will save.
They don't want us to drive anymore. That's why they are pushing self-driving cars so much!
It’s a linguistic tool of control that plays towards people’e weak, emotions.
At least it knocked "no one is above the law" out of the headlines for a while
Only replaced it with "if Trump were a REAL leader, he'd implement nationwide standards and shut the entire country down."
And the B-side, "OMG Trump tweeted he can open the country back up. He's LiTeRaLlY mUsSoLiNi"
I have a buddy with HIV. Dude has lived with it a majority of his life (gotta love blood transfusions in the 80s).
He is happily self-quarantining.
My coworker is undergoing pretty heavy chemo. He is doing the same.
Neither of them want to be a bother. Hell most of them are so used to going out of their way to make sure others aren’t inconvenienced.
Yep. Breadlines in America (people lined up at food banks) with 20M unemployed, when in January there was record low unemployment, a booming economy, and record high consumer confidence. Help wanted signs everywhere, and rising wages.
In an election year.
Makes you go, "Hmmmm..."
use it with your liberal friends. If we can prevent one death by not having an immigrant come into America, it will be worth it.
Haven’t dipped in a month. My gums are tingling now...
I'm already seeing it on Facebook. I just wonder what cause these morons will take up when this hysteria totally didn't happen, like every other time they've sperged out over some cause.
It's a chance he's taking because he never shutdown shit. He's only reiterating the CDC's guidelines. It's the governor's, mayors and other local politicians going power hungry.
There are an insane amount of articles and journalists/politicians on record saying we are always two weeks away from being two weeks away. Last week was supposed to be our 9/11 & Pearl Harbor. It wasn't. People are tired of the constant fear-mongering-
Yep. And none of it will be about the national situation. It will be an endless parade of individual stories about people harmed by the virus, the lack of response to it, crying healthcare workers, economic damage, etc. All emotions and histrionics. Basically, Orange Man Bad.
"Guess what? People die. Every damn day."
Thank you. The idea that saving one life is worth all the treasure and capability of the USA is a nice stanza in an insipid song, but it isn't realistic policy
The world could use a little Darwinism.
If opening the economy saves just one life ... we must open it back up.
Fun Fact: Other than ELIJAH, who rode a Chariot of Fire to Heaven (Admittedly, he MIGHT have been immediately incinerated, but that would be presumption on my part,) only ONE death has ever been "Prevented." And it took GOD to do it. Every single other death has only been DELAYED. Everyone dies. The question is will you be in enforced, tyrannical misery before it happens, or will you be free to pursue happiness.
Don't forget Enoch.
Yeah, I'm not too sure that's what it meant when it said he "Walked with God." I mean, Walking with the Lord is how we describe trying to live as Christians. I do not discount the possibility, but it isn't said explicitly enough for me to be confident in including it. Like I pointed out with Elijah, technically ANY believer inside a flaming chariot would soon arrive in Heaven, so, yeah. Just erring on the side of mortality.
Eat healthy. Exercise. Die anyway.
Some people are sick enough to strangle the next mutherfucker that says it...
The natives are getting restless...
I'm getting buttered popcorn this time!!!
Been around a long time. Fuck them all.
Not new. Big Government has been dictating and enforcing our behaviors for our own safety forever. OSHA jobsite inspections, Health inspectors, building inspectors.......... The list is long and I wouldn't be suprised if half of government was built on that same premise. It's for your own safety. No question the Leftists would like to super size this big government encroachment and the new departments will require budgets to match.
Yeah, cause that's nonsense. If 2 million people died, it still wouldn't be worth all this bullshit to try to stop it.
Someone needs to tell them that they're not preventing one death. They're trading one. Sounds like that person. Might be you.
Huh. Still wondering who your real dad is, I guess. Must be tough. Not sure how to interpret your comment.
He's kind of a troll- or atleast he has an awkward way of expressing himself on this board.
I'm not so sure. He might be MAGA, and just trying to make a joke. But about his mom? That's why I asked for clarification.
