To not pay unemployment for firing someone you need to demonstrate good reason to fire them (e.g. building a case) in most states.

Otherwise employers would just say they fired everyone they needed to cut/furlough/layoff.

In my state you're only eligible if you're laid off or furloughed. If you quit, that's your fault. If you're fired, that's your fault. That's how it works here... apparently it's different elsewhere.

No that's pretty much standard. There are some exceptions for it uf you're fired though. If you fuck up and it's accidental but get canned, I believe you can still draw. It has to be wilful on your part, like not showing up or fucking shit up intentionally.

I guess I have a different lexicon of words than you do. Laid off, as I have always knew it, was just a nice way of saying you're fired.
