Mortality rate of .0001-.0004

Who's going to take the blame on this hoax?

I'd like to see Al Franken get blamed for this whole fiasco, even though he had nothing to do with it. I don't like Al Franken.

The population of New York City is 8.3 million.

21% of New York City has been infected.

That gives us 1,743,000 infections.

10,290 deaths have been CONFIRMED as Covid deaths, whereas an addition 5,121 deaths were PROBABLE (with very shaky data on "probable"). We can also take issue with "dying WITH Covid" versus "dying FROM Covid."

If we go off of confirmed deaths, that's a rate of .59%. If we go off of probable deaths, that's a rate of .88%.

Realistically, that makes it roughly a .6% death rate based on preliminary data from an area with a large amount of minorities, unhealthy lifestyles, and poverty who live in ridiculously cramped conditions.

For context, a flu ranges from about a .1% death rate to a .2% death rate depending on strain and severity.

So, essentially, we caused an artificial depression for a worst case scenario (given NYC's unique traits and NY's inflated reporting) of .6%. It's roughly three times worse than a bad flu strain.

Draw your own conclusions (we should certainly open up at this point in my estimation), but your math was awful and I had to chime in there.

26
IAbsolutelyDare 26 points ago +26 / -0

That's .6% of infected, right? Not total population?

Anyway, I'm old enough to remember Merkel claiming 80% infection rate and the WHO claiming 3.4% dead.

24
MathCheck 24 points ago +24 / -0

Indeed. .6% of those infected.

By total population, that's ~.12% or so.

The eventual infection rate will NOT be 100% anywhere in the country, regardless of any measures that were (or weren't) taken. Many of the weak and susceptible have already been stricken down at this point. Even beyond the shaky numbers, that will also serve to lower the eventual death rate even further from the .6% that this particular study gives us.

11
AndyCuomoIsAMobster 11 points ago +11 / -0

65% of the people who have tested positive didn't even know they had it. If everybody in the country got tested I bet more than 80% are asymptomatic.

4
SordidPontification 4 points ago +4 / -0

Depends on the demographic.

From controlled populations like the USS Roosevelt and the Diamond Princess, we now know that 60% of younger populations like those aboard the carrier were asymptomatic for the duration of the illness (presumably).

For the older demographic on the Diamond Princess, the asymptomatic rate dropped to about 18%.

I don't think it's unreasonable to suggest 30-50%, adjusted for age, would be asymptomatic though. But I do think 65% may be a bit on the high end.

9
SordidPontification 9 points ago +9 / -0

I would guess this explains why Sweden's numbers aren't the extreme outliers everyone was predicting.

While it's not true that they did "nothing," and they still closed some schools, among other things, this data suggests that if we'd done something similar, we might have only seen a slight increase.

SordidPontification 5 points ago +5 / -0

The best part is that the mask suggestion (rather that they "don't help") came from the WHO.

Surprise, surprise.

What's stupid is that we have the ability to mitigate even that, and there's ongoing research to use low power UVC to sanitize surfaces that would probably work even in grocery stores. Dr. Seheult had a video lecture on this including links to research, but the FDA said it will take "too long" to approve low power UVC for use in a general setting. And our production is all outsourced to China anyway.

If I said I were incredibly frustrated and annoyed over this entire situation, that would probably be the understatement of the year.

.12% is percentage of New Yorkers that have ALREADY died...

13
trauncher 13 points ago +15 / -2

about 15% of them actually died of the WuHan virus. the rest were inflated numbers claiming that every death is from Corona.

Deaths due to cancer? down 87% of average. Deaths due to Heart Attack? down 84.7% of average.

the list goes on and on. this is a grand HOAX, carried out by democrats trying desperately to crash Trump's economy... Democrats are an enemy combatant. and should be treated s such. They colluded with China, and continue to brainwash the people... its disgusting.

Probably not. We don't know how many people are dying because the medical establishment had retooled entirely too handle the Wu Flu. People missing aggressive cancers, stent placements, that sort of thing. We also don't know how many people are avoiding death from malpractice...

17
HockeyMom4Trump 17 points ago +19 / -2

And when you add in the rest of the country with NYC those numbers are even a smaller percentage. We are destroying our country for absolute bullshit.

So if NYC has 20% and still seeing that many deaths, what are the numbers in CA? We must have a good 30-40% infected already. (Going on the working theory that the wuflu was here late last year)

7
trauncher 7 points ago +8 / -1

How many deaths? you mean the ones they INFLATE? interestingly enough, in the same time period, in NY,

  • Deaths due to cancer? down 87% of average.
  • Deaths due to Heart Attack? down 84.7% of average.

Isn't that curious.

Whatever the number is. Also deaths due to cancer is probably down because they're not getting chemo which kills them faster than the cancer itself. Also my argument is trying to point out that its probably safe to open back up. So you getting all offended by the number of deaths, whatever it may be is very low iq.

I stand correct. You're right. "We" aren't doing it. I am furious, too, you aren't alone. This whole situation is completely frustrating. The arbitrary restrictions (tennis nets taken down, volleyball nets stay up. Walmart can be open and full of people, local small hockey store has to be closed) infuriate me. In MN they've already closed our beaches and pools for the entire summer. They made a decision like that in April. I am fuming.

12
Basedkekistani2020 12 points ago +13 / -1

Now do the USC LA county study death rate

28
MathCheck 28 points ago +28 / -0

Sure. 94 deaths in Santa Clara County according to data from April 23rd.

The study (with several valid concerns about participant selection) put forth that 2.8% to 5.6% of Santa Clara's population was infected.

Santa Clara County's population is roughly 1.78 million.

2.8% to 5.6% of the population equates to ~50,000 to 100,000.

94 deaths is the equivalent of .188% to .376%, in line with roughly twice as nasty as a bad strain of the flu.

A bit more optimistic than the New York numbers, but other factors (such as lifestyle, participant selection, and dying WITH versus FROM) factor in and could make them in line with each other.

again, FAKE INFLATED death numbers. check the number of heart attack and cancer deaths against the averages in those states, and you'll find that the Wuhan virus numbers are inflated 3-5 times.

4
trauncher 4 points ago +4 / -0

the reported Corona deaths are inflated by 3-5 times. measure them against the deaths due to cancer and heart attack for the same regions and you'll find that those numbers are down by 85% or so... so unless the China virus cures cancer and heart attacks, somebody is misclassifying deaths.

The antibody testing in our detecting equipment pick up of ther strains of Coronavirus and are hardly reliable in detecting true COVID-19 recovered patients.

2
KnoxHarrington 2 points ago +2 / -0

Between our governments it was very much a quick reconciliation. I think the animosity from veterans comes more from seeing the fanatic brutality of the Japanese soldiers. Certainly anyone who was in a PoW camp had ample reason to hate the Japanese for life.

Been saying this from the beginning. On top of that, it’s not like the shelter in place would mathematically be expected to curb infection if everybody’s forced into hubs like grocery stores.

It’ll be interesting to see how the media deals with the fact that this was never a big deal. They spent 24/7 since peachmints saying this was a big deal, so they can’t go against that. Trump took it seriously, which they did not expect, so they can’t knock him for taking it seriously.

I've been looking at data from NC (before they started getting all fuckery with it) and the death rate by age is almost identical to the flu. The issue is low number of young persons that die from the flue in general messes with statistical analysis (in NC population of 10mil for 2018 it was 9 deaths and in 2019 it was 7 deaths for under the age of 24).

2018 Flu deaths - Age 0-17: 2.3% - Age 25-49: 5.1% - Age 50-64: 18.4% - Age 65+: 74.2%

2019 Flu deaths - Age 0-17: 3.5% - Age 25-49: 8.9% - Age 50-64: 24.1% - Age 65+: 63.5%

2020 Chinese Flu deaths (Early Data)- Age 0-17: 0% - Age 25-49: 10% - Age 50-64: 20% - Age 65+: 70%

2020 Chinese Flu deaths (Current w/ non test confirmed deaths)- Age 0-17: 0% - Age 25-49: 4% - Age 50-64: 11% - Age 65+: 84%

A weak flu at that. The seasonal flu strains are actually dangerous to children and can take down healthy people, the Kung Flu is basically harmless to children and needs an adult to be elderly and very sick in order to do be dangerous.

That's how studies work. And everywhere else studies keep finding the same thing. Millions already have antibodies which means the virus is orders of magnitude less deadly than simply dividing deaths by confirmed cases.

0
jaysizzles 0 points ago +2 / -2

Somewhere between 1-2 orders of magnitude to be precise. 145,855 cases, 11,267 deaths = 0.078 case-fatality ratio (7.8%). If this data is correct, then the true CFR is about .005 or half a percentage point (0.5%). Still about 5 times worse than a pretty bad flu. Not the bubonic plague or SARS, but pretty bad.

DontApologize 16 points ago +16 / -0

1
Corse46 1 point ago +1 / -0

Regarding your degree: is it true that there is no such thing as a test that confirms you have the specific virus CoV-ID-19? It can only identify a virus in the coronavirus family? That's what I've been reading, thought I'd ask a professional's opinion.

2
Cantshadowbanthemall 2 points ago +2 / -0

Stanford made two tests available: a PCR and an antibody test. There are others by private entities I am aware of but Stanford isn't charging $100/test.

The antibody test can have false positives. I don't know the rate and I don't think it is known. PCR can have false negatives, not enough virus present in the sample to replicate. You won't get false positives though, RNA is RNA.

1
T-Bear 1 point ago +1 / -0

There is antigen testing, which tests for the specific antigens your body produces against foreign proteins.

Most viruses have a protein shell which covers their RNA strand(s), that your body would recognize on an immunological point if you've had the disease.

Yes, it can also be done for the corona virus family, if one wanted to be less specific.

The caveat is that the more specific the test, the greater the possibility of false negatives and false positives becomes.

Two forms of error here:

False negative = a negative result when in fact you are positive. False positive = a positive result when in fact you are negative.

So yes, you can get tested specifically for SARS-CoV2, and you can get tested for Corona viruses in general.

The former will tell within certain degrees of errors whether you've had THE corona virus.

The latter will tell you with great certainty that you've had A corona virus, but it likely isn't THE corona virus we're wanting to know about (There are about 4-5 corona viruses which cause colds).

Hope this helps.

Here is the problem with this hoax. You only get to cry wolf one time on an epic scale such as this. So when a real killer virus pandemic comes along we are not going to believe any projection or death toll because we have been lied to once. This will hurt us in the future way more than it does now. That being said now we are being duped and robed of our liberties by some very very very bad people.

We'll see what happens when they use "climate change" as an excuse to lock us all up. I'm willing to bet people will cave again.

AndyCuomoIsAMobster 33 points ago +35 / -2

They are using this to keep people from getting it so that it comes back stronger in the Fall during the election. That way, Trump's older base will be discouraged from voting in person, and pushed to the "completely fair" mail-in ballots. The Deep State is squeezing this toothpaste virus as hard as they can to get every last bit out of the tube. Of course the virus attacks older Americans, who mostly vote Trump, and they'll use the "old people will die if they go out and vote" to discourage Trump's base from voting.

Funny because my ‘ ‘senior’ relatives are the least afraid of this thing

9
AndyCuomoIsAMobster 9 points ago +9 / -0

That won't stop them for pushing mandatory Mail In voting and/or putting up lots of road blocks for you to vote in person. All they have to say is "if you have never been tested for Coronavirus, you are not allowed to vote in election halls."

Most are, so is everyone who’s seen these “apocalypses” come and go every so often.

The only ones pushing it are panicked doomer 20-30 year olds and the MSM and their politicians

Older 'Pede here, with multiple medical issues which heighten risk. Can confirm - no fear here.

Most everyone I know who is scared right now...are people 15-40 years younger than me with no medical issues.

I'm 67. Plan on voting Trump if I have to walk through the plague, fire or a hail of bullets.

16

Every fucking day these studies come out and the MSM brushes over them. Meanwhile, 1 flawed study out of the VA and suddenly Trump killed people with HCQ. It's almost like they have an agenda.

Time to start digging. What we know the elites have done:

  1. Kill the economy
  2. Increase tensions between China and everyone else
  3. Give China a blowjob
  4. Give mini Tyrants a taste of power.

When Fauci said it's "best to overeact" like 1.5 months ago I knew he was a fucking moron. Then he says only 25-50% of cases are unreported. GTFO.

2
thuggishruggishtrump 2 points ago +2 / -0

Ah yes, "2nd wave", the new fake news media buzzword, along with "herd immunity" which is quite funny. How the fuck can we have herd immunity if we're all under house arrest?

12
AloweiseEdelHuberIII 12 points ago +12 / -0

Let’s hang Fauci. I’m fine with that. He won’t let this be brought up today

Trump needs to read this study in the press conference TODAY! No more waiting. Open the country up.

Cuomo was hoping all the pissing and moaning during this bullshit would allow him to dupe the administration into rescuing NY from bankruptcy so he can keep spending billions on illegals and welfare to stay in office indefinitely.

7

HEY DO YOU GUYS REMEMBER WHEN FAUCI SAID ONLY 25-50% OF CASES WERE NOT REPORTED. WHAT A FUCKING IDIOT.

It's time to realize we were taken for a ride, we all overreacted and get back to normal

That's been clear to some of us since, oh about March 16th, when the manufactured hysteria really began to ramp up.

7

You mean the fact that the flu vaccine that was not very effective last year, could be a sign that many of us already got COVID-19 and beat it already?! What a concept.

Any chance he saw this earlier than we did? Why else would he say a state is opening too early?

20%? It's much higher than that.

They've just scaled up the numbers from the test not actually testing everyone.

I think this has probably been the thing Trump has handled the worst, but not because of his "inaction" or whatever the fuck the left says. I think he caved to hard to fast. This shit is not that bad

wait till we find out who perpetuated this massive hoax. This isn't just an "oops I made a mistake" kind of thing here.

3
itbj2 3 points ago +3 / -0

We have 20K deaths in NY alone. so if you take that over the entire country it would be 200K if only 20% get infected and 2 million if everyone is infected so the number of dead is correct. The problem is that the virus is very hard on old and fat people and we have a abundance of both.

1

What does this mean for the mortality rate?

1
Win4Don 1 point ago +2 / -1

With more news of the infected group being much larger than "the experts" suspected, the mortality rate needs to be broke down into subsets so we can go back to normal. Focus testing and lockdowns on the most vulnerable. The MSM always says we have to trust the science, listen to "the experts" buy they are always wrong, always. I have been screaming that it was here last year. It festered in Wuhan for months until it got out of control and they had to lock it down just like NYC. It was in Cali last year, maybe Nov or Oct. It went undetected because we weren't looking for it. In the dense cities there could still be some issues, but for most of America I don't think so. Thank God this thing will hopefully will be winding down soon.

Been saying this forever!

20% assume it's 70ish! Not all people have been tested.

This whole thing is a scam

1
Sleazeball 1 point ago +2 / -1

US pop: 330,000,000 CoV related deaths: 49,700

Assuming 20% of population has cv antibodies, that would 70,000,000 Americans with CV.

49,700 / 330,000,000 = .00071

That's .07% death rate.

You might think these numbers are too optimistic, and perhaps they are, but I personally believe the number of infected Americans to be around 120 million.

1
Burrito_Bandito 1 point ago +2 / -1

Fauci will just say its anecdotal and that he needs 15 more studies that call confirm the same thing

1
Creeporama 1 point ago +1 / -0

True. I’ve also been reading a lot about how to build up one’s immune system through diet and vitamins. This mess has actually made me look at what I’m eating, drinking, etc. with more concern for my everyday health.
