Nursing homes are already so isolating, I have worked for 3 of them. Now they are shut out even more and they have to sit and watch the relentless fear mongering on the news and media 24/7. It's horrible. I feel so bad for them.
I also work and have worked in nursing homes. Yes, they are already very isolated and the lucky ones that have family to visit them really looked forward to those visits. Some of the very fortunate had adult children and grandchildren who came every day. My heart breaks for them and their families right now.
My mom passed last year but had progressed through various care levels in the years prior. Fortunately I had good facilities on my typical way to work so it was easy to pop in frequently. Her Alzheimer disease made her a particular challenge for her caregivers as she could get suddenly violent if she thought she was being "assaulted" for example during a diaper change.
Folks who haven't had the experience don't recognize how patient, caring, and selfless workers in care homes are. Preserving the dignity of elderly people who find themselves in a very undignified reduced station is a special skill and I saw a lot of it through my mom's care.
My faith leads me to expect that you have all won great accolade in heaven for the selfless work you do. And on behalf of all the residents who are not capable of expressing their thanks - thank you!
