Hey friends, Assistant Director of a Retirement Community here. We all hate it too. Heart breaking to watch them wave through windows. We want our people to be safe. Since there is no manual for this crazy time line, we just try to err on the side of caution. The pros and cons of overreacting seem safer than the pros and cons of underreacting. (Our residents can come and go still, but we're restricting visitors and not allowing gathering.) Trust me, we want to be doing fun things, not wasting time from end years. Have some grace for those of us that still show up to work with elder pedes. This has been a rough road to navigate.
Appreciate that. We don't know if we're right or wrong, but we're trying our hardest. I also appreciate you making this post. I've been wanting to get some of this off my chest lol.
It's frustrating knowing there are likely so many people who would like to help but who are not allowed- at precisely the time many people also are home from work.
It would be glorious to use volunteers in some capacity, I wouldn't have to work 7 straight days last week lol. But the risk (or perceived risk) of the virus coming into the building (on someone who doesn't need to be there) is what keeps us awake a night. It's already a huge leap of faith trusting our coworkers to sit still when they're off work.
