Yeah he was just brainstorming and throwing off ideas for the lab to check out. Basically just add "...is that something?" To the end of those sentences, like a manager in a meeting trying to help their team solve a problem, who doesn't know enough about the nitty gritty but is saying all sorts of stuff to help them find a solution.
