the trouble with Trump is that he was legitimately elected, which I believe suggests that people who operate in similar ways as him exist in significant numbers.
In other words, he talks and sometimes rambles like a normal human being, instead of the slick, polished, super-parsed way that politicians use and that we all expect to hear and that makes us feel good - even when it's all utter bullshit and there are zero actions to go along with it.
Most of us were drawn to Trump right away because he did NOT talk like a politician, but there are plenty of lefties out there who hate him because he doesn't. He tells them the truth instead of feeding them shit to make them feel good, and there isn't much they hate more than that!
Yes. I think you're right. No one should hate someone for the way they speak. But we also have to prepare for the counterargument. There was that time Trump mocked a reporter who turned out to be disabled. He's constantly attacking people based on their looks or accusing people of lying when his own comments are often proven false. Mocking someone for their looks can be fine if you know the person well and they know you're joking and mock you similarly. Even then, doing so habitually just comes across as mean. Trump gets away with it because he's doing all the things politicians never do and people don't trust politicians for good reason. People like it when Trump is mean because he's being mean toward people they hate. People who believe Trump has their best interests at heart will overlook the toxicity. But does he? The majority of Trump's tax cuts went to billionaires like him. It makes sense since he's only lived his life and he's trying to fix the problems he's experienced. But from the outside, it looks like Trump has tried to make the swamp work for him. If we just laugh every time Trump lies or is toxic toward people, we're letting him off the hook when it comes to the truth. Never let your leaders off the hook, no matter their party or the way they talk.
