FDA needs a new person in charge. Waiting until a patient is at death's door before dispensing proven lifesvaing drugs is a move in service of vaccine developers, not the American people.
I think it was in response to the bogus VA chart review study that was released the day before. Some doctors reviewed the charts of VA patients who had been given Hydroxychloroquine and falsely concluded it could be a problem because the patients treated with HDQ had a higher mortality rate than those who weren't given the medication. It turned out that the only patients in the small study who received HDQ were those who were already intubated (they were already in critical condition when they were given the medication). Since the media went nuts over this, and the FDA is guided by potential litigation instead of the facts, they put out this stupid statement.
Trump's irresponsible promotion of the drug prior to it's authorization caused a delayed deployment of life saving drugs because we kept losing our shit over people being given pills we give to 80 year old men for gout!
Not sure why the FDA today limited HCQ to only hospital use.
