Azithromycin also has a similar cardiac contraindication (QT interval prolongation), so the two of them together may be more likely to cause this problem. But, there are protocols to determine if a patient may be at risk.
The good news is a doctor at a Long Island nursing home was concerned about hydroxychloroquine + azithromycin in his patients, and substituted doxycycline instead. He reported good results.
