The Republican party started back in 1850 to counter the Democrats wanting to extend slavery into the western states.
Dems were too "aristocratic."
Blacks started making progress post-slavery, in Reconstruction. Several entered Congress...as Republicans.
Dems couldn't have that. They instituted Jim Crow as a second slavery. As a result, the first black Dem senator was in the 1990s -- whereas the first black Republican senator was over 100 years earlier -- 1870.
Furthermore, they created the KKK as a tyrannical, authoritarian terrorist wing to intimidate people. They have always engaged in election fraud as well.
Short version: They have always been elitist, class-conscious, racist SOBs. They have lied about it. And until recently, some of them were not bad people (JFK).
But they will ALWAYS have the stench of slavery and the KKK about them.
And they will always have the stench of aristocracy; that is, neofeudalism, about them, too.
While some of what you said is true, that's not what the poster (whose comment I responded to) asked, which was: "were they ever American?", to which the answer is yes. You are conflating the behavior of one part of the party, the Southern Democrats, with the party as a whole. That's unjust and runs contrary to historical fact. The Northern and Western Democrats were terribly distressed by the growing sectional divide because it threatened the integrity of The Nation.
There's a big difference between the Dems of 1860 and today, and that difference is...hard-leftism, and especially the communist variety. If today's Democrats are uneasy about the direction of the party, they're playing a very dangerous game by attempting to take advantage of the anarchic dynamism of hard-leftism while trying to maintain party integrity. They've made a deal with devil by allowing communist rowdiness to bloom in the party just for the sake of 'energizing the rank & file'.
A central feature of communist ideology is internationalism; thus, there's an element of the Dem party that couldn't give a shit about the integrity of The Nation, which they feel is an outmoded relic, dustbin of history, yadda, yadda. If the party as a whole is distressed about this Bolshevik-style platform-hijacking, they're flat-out insane if they think they've got any control over it. And sadly, they actually are insane with TDS.
But, Trump isn't playing games. He and I and millions of other leftover Cold Warriors, knew this was coming. The destruction of the USSR has cast adrift those internationalist tentacles that were in the US, and we've got a job to root that shit out. The Dems aren't their own best doctor for the job since, historically, they've been the more anti-capitalist/populist party. Rooting out the communist virus (in every sense) is going to require a massive prophylactic dose of freemarket wealth-generation.
Which is why today's infected Democrats are fighting tooth-and-nail to destroy the nation's literal health, because its economic health will follow.
No, they weren't.
