Also, STOP USING IMGUR. With the multitude of MAGA friendly image hosters like kekpe.pe and https://maga.host/, plus this td's own native image hoster, there's no reason to ever use imgur, who is in bed with reddit, another ounce of traffic.
imgur is a huge reason t_d died on reddit for me. most of the memes, info graphics and twitter screenshots we had were all removed after the election and it made searching the sub for old arguments and data really annoying.
This site's image host gives me constant grief. Trying to upload .pngs well under the size limit is like 50/50 chance it'll work or not. I still have no idea what the problem is.
I've had some problems but not many. Others' mileage may vary. And I still can't get an answer if it strips EXIF data [cough, cough]. But the imgur is still shit and the other two I listed are way better.
I assume you are using cloudflare DNS (1.1.1.1) or similar. The owner of archive.is refuses to let it list their site because cloudflare doesn't leak your geolocation (simplification). So either you have to change to a DNS provider like Google that doesn't respect your privacy, or you can't access archive.is and related sites.
It won't help, you still get the cloudflare page first. You need to swap DNS entirely which I don't personally think is worth it. You could also VPN with a different DNS or something I guess, idk, I don't VPN outside of work needs.
I understand the desire to remove the ad revenue, but archive.is is really starting to irritate me. I keep getting cloudflare's captcha whenever I'm on mobile.
We had this on /r/KiA and it worked great for a while but then archive.is started rate limiting the bot and then eventually locked it out behind a captcha. Now the bot still comments on every post and users just post their own archive links in that thread.
Would be awesome if this site could have a dedicated slot in the post for archive links.
It's not really a cloudflare error. Archive.is et al refuse to work with DNS providers that don't leak the user's geolocation to them (simplified explanation). It is all on archive.is to make it work, and they won't.
Yeah, it doesn’t work with cloudflare and maybe some other DNS providers. It’s not because cloudflare is censoring it, but because archive.is returns bad DNS records.
Cloudflare doesn't block them. They are a CDN with strict DNS requirements. Archiving sites tend to have iffy DNS records due to how they work. Just use OpenDNS or Google DNS.
Solid. Still dismayed at how many folks submit links guaranteeing clicks to communist / anti-American / multi-national (globalist) sites and give them revenue. They're already subsidized by our tax dollars, like PBS, etc.
There is a misconception about denying revenue. I have had several sites in the past where I got revenue from the archived version. If there is a java ad on the archive you can still receive revenue.
There is one advantage, you won't contribute to their traffic ranking by using the archive link.
Good points but I hope we don't get back into that retard thing we had back on reddit where so many sites and even entire hosting platforms were categorically banned.
Colored flow charts soothe my weaponized autism.
How many clips does your weaponized autism hold in a single round? Joe Biden wants to know.
Not sure about that, but I'm pretty sure it weighs like ten boxes you might move.
At least ten push ups
Ummm racist, yikes sweetie wow
Love pepe! Mods should show this image in the submission page!
Yessss
Awesome! The MSM links have given my phone cancer and I can't afford any more chemotherapy for it.
I hear hydroxyclean is all the rage these days
Also gets around paywalls
Also saves the version before they stealth edit it.
Hell yes!!!!
Stop linking me to the stupid Washington Post!
BBC doesn’t have ad revenue and only suffers if more people use it...
Can still directly link the ones that have paywalls instead of ads, then get around their paywall using this browser addon:
https://github.com/iamadamdev/bypass-paywalls-chrome
Thank you! From an elder (not so savvy in computers) pede.
Yes yes yes!
YES!

I still use imgur, I have an account and tons and tons of pictures from over the years, it's nice having a gallery I can quickly reference and link.
I'll be honest. I needed this.
Me too. And the explanation of the archive.is actually is.
What would be further helpful is a list of websites to avoid (beyond the obvious).
This is great to know. Anything from Daily Caller or Daily mail or WA Post amid others can't be read if using ad block which I refuse to deactivate.
Should of added a list of anti Trump sites to avoid
99% of the internet

use a different DNS?
I use 8.8.8.8 / 8.8.4.4 at the router level and have never had any issues getting to this site or other none mainstream sites.
Whatever you do, do not link directly to cnn or msdnc. Copy and paste the text if you don't want to use archive.
Thank you from someone on the moving sidewalk to technology.
What a robust comment!
I understand the desire to remove the ad revenue, but archive.is is really starting to irritate me. I keep getting cloudflare's captcha whenever I'm on mobile.
Really wish we had a better way.
How is captcha that bad? Adds less than 10 seconds.
It's annoying when I have to do it for every page. And it gives me the impression archive.is doesn't like us very much...
This needs perma sticky!
Hah, I love this. Thank you for not for this valuable public service announcement.
Kek
Good info.
Would be cool if there was a way to post the link in the submit window and it could auto post to archive.is and populate the archive link for you.

I'm no techie but I'm reasonably sure their captcha prevents that.
Testing 1, 2, 3... http://archive.is/MZyNB
Archive. Everything!
Solid post.
archive.is is offline for me... DNS errors etc.
Hmmmm. this is strange... Does anyone else get: "Error 1001 Ray ID: 5899995e0f170544 • 2020-04-25 16:56:44 UTC
DNS resolution error"
it looks like a cloud flare error.

Now that makes sense.
There are a bunch of other domain names such as archive.vn and archive.today.
many thanks. :-)
Yeah, it doesn’t work with cloudflare and maybe some other DNS providers. It’s not because cloudflare is censoring it, but because archive.is returns bad DNS records.
Ahhh. thats what it looks like.
Archive.is and the other archive sites dont work with every DNS provider. Cloudflare for one blocks them.

Thanks for the helpful process. I wasn't aware of this.
Dumb question, why don't you guys use the way back machine?
Archive.is always gets blocked on my network.
Thanks, Pepe
We need one of these for proof reading memes as well.
This should be a perma-sticky for all to see.
The only problem I have with archive.is is it's exceedingly slow, and I kind of feel like a dick grifting off of their service.
I also frequently have problems with it on my phone.
Good to know! Thank you!
This is very helpful and well written.
And the outlet can't shadow edit the article as they have proven want to do.
Thank you Pede, well done...
TIL how to archive!
Solid. Still dismayed at how many folks submit links guaranteeing clicks to communist / anti-American / multi-national (globalist) sites and give them revenue. They're already subsidized by our tax dollars, like PBS, etc.
Ohh, colored flow chart. Mmmm.
Sticky!!
Good advice fren!
Archive Everything!
what if I'm trying to post a link from youtubE?
There is a misconception about denying revenue. I have had several sites in the past where I got revenue from the archived version. If there is a java ad on the archive you can still receive revenue.
There is one advantage, you won't contribute to their traffic ranking by using the archive link.
The biggest advantage for me is:
The linked site can't drop 2.6MB of crap into my cache and site data files.
HEY MODS!!!
How about this idea.... automatically convert links to archive.is!!!
Weaponized autism might solve this question: did the same people who killed Seth Rich also whack jeffery epstein? Asking for a friend.
FINALLY, someone explained how to do that! I really didn't know the process.
Good points but I hope we don't get back into that retard thing we had back on reddit where so many sites and even entire hosting platforms were categorically banned.
