I hear you. I'm not arguing when I say this, maybe it'll help someone is all I'm thinking. My bank is seriously 99% online. Opening accounts, getting car/rental/property insurance, making ROTH deposits, ordering new credit cards when they expire, and requesting a loan can all be done on the phone or online. Mobile check deposits with your phone is also super common now. Even stuff requiring signatures is used with gmail encryption.
Cash deposits is a valid point. The one time I've ever needed to deposit cash required a stop at the US Post Office to buy a money order. And then I deposited it with my phone. I have no solution for that.
That's you and me. Remember tons tens of millions of folks don't have any bank account.
we want them to cash their check, so they can do what they have to do, because it's good for them, obviously, and good for the economy.
Also I think it's a good point to remember that a lot of the folks who hold a lot of the money, our folks over the age of 50 or 60. And what you had about 50, folks just need to go into the damn Branch because they're not really that good with a computer. I'm over 50, I'm still amazed that my cohorts in age can't figure this shit out. Granted I'm an IT guy, and I've been the computer nerd since the early 80's.
The only way to close up branches Nationwide why do would be to literally move to a cashless society almost immediately. Which is quite literally impossible.
