I remember right after 2016 some guy in /r/politics was raving like "NOW THE DEATH CAMPS! THE END OF DEMOCRACY! HITLER IS REBORN!" etc. and I said "If people like you just shut the fuck up there's no real problem." and they couldn't get it.
Like they made no effort to defend the crazier points but started talking about climate change and "we only have 12 years!!! we'll all die if I shut up!!!" etc.
I think the left are either disingenuous activists who know they're lying (which probably is a good portion of the people we fight online) or people who lack the means or knowledge to fact check.
If you're dealing with an activist/operative they know they're lying and want to tell that lie anyway so they'll ignore you or try to discredit you.
I genuinely feel sorry for someone who goes on AOC's twitter and then starts posting everywhere "We have 12 years to save the world!!!!" though, they are hopelessly blind and will be attacked viciously by the mainstream if they ever try to see.
