All of the charts and statistics for "US" should exclude NYC. But in general the way the media and most people process this information is really foolish. Most of the statistics are just a proxy for population density and say almost nothing about the particular country/state.
If the media were to report on fingers, they'd say that fingers have a 100% fatality rate. Everyone who has ever had fingers has died, same with toes or teeth.
Agreed! Setting a "one size fits all" approach to COVID-19 based on the needs of the New York metro area and Los Angeles is needlessly punitive. Stricter measures are needed in these two localities, but someone in Montana could basically be issued a bottle of hand sanitizer and sent about his business.
