I'm into WWII era music and always interpreted the song as meeting again after the war. It says to say hello to the folks...and tell them I won't be long.

BTW, Vera Lynn turned 103 last month.

What a voice! And the link to the song in this thread is her singing with a big band, which is clearly the best music ever written or performed. (I'm a trumpet player, of course I'd say that) Over 450,000 Brits died in WWII, per the lowest estimate. Curiously, that's about the same rate of death as CCP virus is proving to have.

You may be accurately describing the intent of the song, but don't gloss over the "stiff upper lip" British thing that is DENIAL. Kids stolen from homes like this won't be returned. Even if that's just a small percentage, it is NOT necessary. Very very few kids die, or even get seriously ill with this. The very best way to fight this is for us all to go outside and get immunity.

Little is known about this disease, but it's definitely true that a small exposure to active virus results in a less severe initial reaction with a greater likelihood of beating it with no big deal. That's the whole idea of a vaccine. Asymptomatic carriers are probably only carrying a light viral load, and that's probably the children of our Nation. Opening up schools would be far more likely to wipe out our old and tenured teachers than it would be to kill off kids. Parents hugging and playing with their kids like a healthy family may infect the parents some of whom may become miserable, but outside of any comorbidities they are all very likely to recover just fine. With immunity. Trump pills available to the rest brings the death rate down to less than the flu, with most virus-free in 6 days or less. With immunity.

So there is no valid reason for any parent to need to forfeit their children to the State over this.

Now about that joke of all the best big band musicians in heaven ...
