Random thought, but what if there were two alien races...one all about individual liberty and one about centralized mass control? And what if they're just waiting to see which paradigm we choose as a species?
The free aliens won't interfere, and they'll make the slavers regret it if they force themselves on us. So then what we have is a watch and wait game for the human race.
Just my opinion, but my thinking is that there are probably a great variety of space-faring civilizations, ranging from the voracious to the benevolent.
It makes sense to me that there should be an certain civs that are far more advanced than the rest (given the age of the universe). If one assumes that the dominant civs are exploitative, then we'd have already been overrun, probably. But if the dominant civs are benevolent and keeping the others in check, then it could explain why we've been left to our devices (mostly).
I just really doubt that an exploitative and non-cooperative civilization can make very far up the tech tree. Just look how the Democrats create destruction and disarray with everything they touch.
Agreed, but there’s no reason for a co-operative advanced civilization not to eat food, perform experiments, or exploit natural resources.
After all, if we got along great with the Democrats and everyone worldwide always acted in the best interests of humanity, we’d still eat chicken and do experiments on mice.
Looking at it from the chickens perspective, it doesn’t seem very benevolent, even in the hypothetical case of world peace.
Any civilization capable of traveling to earth from distant galaxies would be so far beyond our level of intelligence, we would be mere chickens to them.
We always project human like feelings and motivations to our image of intelligent alien life. But wether they are good or bad - by our definition - won’t matter because we’ll just be lower life forms to them.
I’d prefer that they be vile and evil but allergic to life forms on Earth, than nice and benevolent, but also able to sustain themselves on human flesh.
