This is an excellent article!

Can also confirm! I never knew about K-street, this is insanity

hilboggins 3 points ago +4 / -1

It's why term limits are good in theory but not in reality. K Street is there to hold the hands of every new person and show them the way.

yup.. that's a problem. you may revolve your representative every few years, but all the qualified aids, advisors and managers are all the same.

Trump ran into the same problem. He had hundreds of people to hire and like a month to get it done.

Butthurt 29 points ago +30 / -1

TLDR: Congress hasn’t written a law since the 90s K-Street writes the laws

Congress sells the laws.

K-St. pays congress commissions

7
RocketSurgeon22 7 points ago +7 / -0

What happened that allowed for K street rule in the 90s?

16
T-Bear 16 points ago +16 / -0

Bush 41's NWO, Clinton's election, the '94 Republican takeover of the House, which effectively ended decades of Democrat domination of the legislative process.

Because Repubs really didn't want to lead, and Democrats wanted to regain control of the process, the legislation crafting was moved out of Congress, under the guise of "efficiency". It allowed all the Democrats kicked out in '94, to become lobbyists crafting the laws again.

This is why there can be NO "clean" legislation again. The lobbyists will ALWAYS slide the pork in.

90%

I think you mean 100%.

All politicians are whores. ALL of them.

Barnyardb 20 points ago +20 / -0

Thank you for the info. You learn something new everyday.

"These groups are filled with highly-paid lawyers who represent the interests of the entity and actually write laws and legislation briefs."

oxygen 3 points ago +3 / -0

This was one of the best and most eye-opening article I've read in weeks, maybe years. I already kind of knew it, but now it all makes complete sense.

4
hillaryforprison 4 points ago +4 / -0

ding ding ding. Should not be investigated though, because reasons.

63
hairylegs 63 points ago +63 / -0

You have to pass it so you can read it to find out who bought err wrote it.

51
dukeofdoorcounty 51 points ago +51 / -0

The same people that wrote Obamacare...insurance company lobbyists.

37
IncredibleMrE1 37 points ago +37 / -0

The lobbyists and special interests. Our "representatives" don't write a single letter of legislation. They're just the ones hired to market and pass the bills.

We make fun of Nancy all the time about her "we have to pass the bill to find out what's in it" line, but this is what she was referring to. No one in Congress ever really has any idea of what all they're voting on in a given bill, because none of them helped write it. K Street writes it, Congress passes it.

23
splink 23 points ago +23 / -0

Yep. This is how they can whip out a multi-thousands page long bill literally overnight to holler about on cue.

6
NotJudging 6 points ago +6 / -0

None of them read it either I'd wager.

Aides. Congressional aides and interns do most of the actual work in congress. The senators and congressmen are sort of like ideological figureheads. Not to say they don't have input, or have opinions, but they can't be sitting around reading thousand page bills every day.

30
Shampagnepapi 30 points ago +30 / -0

“But the can’t be sitting around reading thousand page bills every day”

I’m pretty sure that’s why we elect them and pay them handsomely.

It’s literally their job to do that.

Fabius 2 points ago +2 / -0

All politicians are whores. There is not a single good one among them. They are all bought and paid for.

ALL OF THEM. Yes, even that guy you like.

That's why Trump is loved by the people and hated by the elites. He's not a politician. He's an American citizen who finally got power.

14
559throw 14 points ago +14 / -0

But the can’t be sitting around reading thousand page bills every day

They also shouldn't be reading thousand page bills, period. The Fed govt is way, way, WAY too big in the first place.

4
Wyndthough 4 points ago +4 / -0

A lot of it is rewrites of old stuff and minor tweaks. Still a huge problem though.

4
Aquamine-Amarine 4 points ago +4 / -0

They don't want to. They want to make someone else do all the hard work.

2
Destineed369 2 points ago +2 / -0

Then they probly shouldn’t let their laws be written as lengthy. Legalese is a very real problem. Typing from my phone and it recognizes legalese as a real word. They don’t HAVE to make laws that destroy the country. They could just sit on their ass and do nothing. At this point, I’d almost pay them to do nothing.

24
AbrahamLincoln 24 points ago +24 / -0

Maybe the bills shouldn't be 1000 pages.

14
deleted 14 points ago +14 / -0
3
Destineed369 3 points ago +3 / -0

So who’s gonna write the AI code that condensed down legalese to normal speak and tells us what the bill is about.

9
Aquamine-Amarine 9 points ago +9 / -0

All bills should be less than 100 pages. Maybe more for more complicated issues. But you should never go over 500 pages.

12
T-Bear 12 points ago +12 / -0

If they were all clean bills (no added features) one could limit the content to less than 100 pages.

3
BillionsAndBillions 3 points ago +3 / -0

I like a 500 word limit to all legislation, and all contributors to writing legislation must be listed in an attached document. Every bill must be read aloud on the floor by the legislator sponsoring it.

6
Mexicola1976 6 points ago +6 / -0

Or reading bills at all in most cases.

15
MenicusMoldbug 15 points ago +15 / -0

People always jokingly say we should put corporate decals on our senators for their donors, but that's wrong.

There should be a law that says each bill must state it's original authors and who they work for.

That's real transparency.

7
Southern_Belle 7 points ago +7 / -0

I propose that WE write the bills.

We meet with our congressmen to put forth our bills.

We can do that with virtual town halls.

They vote on them.

I've got a few bills in mind I'd like to craft.

1
Fabius 1 point ago +1 / -0

Who makes the laws again?

Just face it dude. This country is fucking gone. We need a new country. One day.

10
RiverFenix 10 points ago +10 / -0

Does this mean WE, TheDonald, can write bills and forward them to the Senate and Congress...

What's stopping a bunch of Really smart people from drafting something awesome and getting Nunes to endorse/sponsor it with Grassley and others... idk I'm Canadian so this is probably interference. TAKE MY IDEAS AND RUN

6
Southern_Belle 6 points ago +6 / -0

Hey, that's what I just wrote.

I've been thinking of this for some time.

I have a few ideas on bills I'd like to see become law.

Lobbyists, same as every bill.

4
Womp_womp 4 points ago +4 / -0

You obviously didn't watch the schoolhouse Rock video. Congressmen have illicit affairs and pay off their interns with our tax dollars whilst doing insider trading and selling favors. During this time, lobbyists and corporate interests write laws for Congress to pass.

3
Truglow 3 points ago +3 / -0

It’s a big club and we are not in it. Most of congress are to ignorant to write any legislation. Seen any thing from Hank Johnson or impeach mints? You won’t.

3
Wyndthough 3 points ago +3 / -0

I may just run against him after I get my business fully going and help the community personally. Don't want to try u til after that. Surely it can't be that hard to beat "Guam may capsize" Johnson.
