Be a better Dad in the future. Talk with your own, play, teach morals and let them know it is not just about their feelings.

Sad state of affairs in the digital world.

Family is the tightest cord (besides faith). If it gets worse, old wounds will be mended as people need to turn to who made them breakfast or who they stayed up talking with late at night.

At least, that is my hope.

My son (9) wore nothing but whitey tighteys all day Sunday. After the fifth time of me telling him to put clothes on he says, "no! America means freedom!"

I stopped asking him to put his clothes on, For the rest of the day.

Yeah he earned a freebie on that one

Qualmow 2 points ago +2 / -0

Ha. Weird flex kid, but you have appoint. Dad abides.

2
Qualmow 2 points ago +2 / -0

Yeah, because too many kids have an I-pad and do not know how to ride a bike, I am my 8 year olds best friend.

Watched Second Hand Lions with my two girls last night :D

I LOVE the partial 'Man Speech', and I raised animal as a youth, my Grandfather was a well decorated war vet.

And those are only a few reasons I love that movie so.

Those fellas really lived.

brsmith77 3 points ago +3 / -0

Damn right.

My master bedroom overlooks a green that is shared with all houses in the cul de sac.

Most days there is a young dad out there with his 2 daughters. He plays soccer, tennis and cricket with them. It is so lovely to see and sadly such a rare sight these days.

Good Dads are so important to society and our number 1 weapon in the long fight.

Wtf is a fortnite monitor?

16
RollWave 16 points ago +17 / -1

the disposable kind. You use them for 2 weeks (1 fortnite) then throw them out. sort of like contacts.

4
SpaceForceMilitia 4 points ago +4 / -0

Lol.

14
Peace-maker 14 points ago +15 / -1

Computer screen (monitor) used for playing a video game (fort nite). I knew what it was and still had to reread it because the wording seemed off.

14
HuggableBear 14 points ago +14 / -0

I don't understand what it has to do with him killing himself

16
Harambe 16 points ago +17 / -1

Video Games bad. Now you understand why blue checkmark boy made this up

12
TrumpTrain_MAGA2020 12 points ago +14 / -2

Yeah agreed. I think it was included to remove speculation about his "No signs" statement.

There are ALWAYS signs before someone commits suicide. We may all miss them until it's too late, but there are ALWAYS signs...

RIP to the little guy.

3
NoStumpoElTrumpo 3 points ago +3 / -0

This

11
NoStumpoElTrumpo 11 points ago +11 / -0

I'm still confused. A monitor for just one application? Its breaking had to do with the suicide somehow? So. Many. Questions.

9
Peace-maker 9 points ago +9 / -0

Without insulting the dead, it would appear he’s citing not being able to play his favorite game as a contributing factor in his suicide. I’m a little confused by this rationale myself. I’m gonna chalk this up to grief coping... I guess. But yeah, he could’ve said his computer screen. Fortnite monitor was needlessly wordy.

2
ColbyP 2 points ago +2 / -0

Honestly sounds fake. Oh no, I can't play a video game, better kill myself. Nah, if it actually happened I'm putting 10-1 odds dad was an abuser or rapist. Don't trust blue checkmarks as a rule.

1
NoStumpoElTrumpo 1 point ago +1 / -0

Exactly. Then dad throws out dumb game excuse as a red herring.

Fokkfess 10 points ago +11 / -1

Brad is my second cousin. My mom told me about this two weeks ago and I figured it had to do with the current social situation.

8
The69thBrokage 8 points ago +8 / -0

Yeah, but he was probably a fucking white male!

7
progressives4Trump 7 points ago +7 / -0

Some kids get REALLY upset when they lose a game of Fortnite

6
Cocobolo 6 points ago +6 / -0

This post makes it seem Brad's son had enough with Fortnite and anything related to social distancing which caused the lad to lash out on his monitor.

5
flashersenpai 5 points ago +5 / -0

Why is a 12 year old a young man while a 20 year old is a girl?

3
MedicineBowJoe 3 points ago +3 / -0

Interesting observation, honestly. I'd say it has to do with what folks typically value in different genders. Compliments of males often include manliness and maturity. Compliments of females often include youthfulness and beauty. It's just how people refer to loved ones with endearment.

"Broke his Fortnite monitor"

3
sdl5 3 points ago +3 / -0

And if you scroll through and read ALL of what he writes and responds to:

It was the SECOND monitor broken as first was replaced...

My parent red flags were off the charts on this- Then I see he was already creating an emotional health of teens for in school program to push...

He knew.

He knew his kid was broken.

And then he not only began promoting just that repeatedly after just a week- he created ANOTHER fundraising org in his son's name! And has Tweeted quite a few self promotionals about those...

...and about an engine his co and he were clearly devoting an extreme amount of focus and time to bring to market a week or so after his son killed himself. Oh. Yeah.

Selfish, bad parenting, and even WFH didn't get his attention to huge issues son having in life as zero intervention just feeding the gaming crutch/danger.

4
Tryhardneckbeard 4 points ago +6 / -2

No Signs

  • First sign dad's a dumbfuck

Broke his Fortnite Monitor

  • Second sign, its high end gaming monitor range: $400 and up (Spoiled rotten possibly)

My Story, pain and Manifesto

  • Enough about the kid, lets make this about me. AKA Third sign, nail in coffin, etc.

Fortnite

  • The game is a rage inducing cheat fest ripped off from another game but Unreal was able to litigate its way out of the bullshit. There are millions of people aspiring to be like 1 of 10000s if not 100000s of youtubers in the hopes of become rich playing video games. Think Michael Jordan or any other pro sport worship but with trolling 20-30 yos picking on 8-12yos

This dude is just lining up to try and sue the fuck out of Unreal and become the next Jack Thompson. Fuck this POS

1
EMP2024 1 point ago +2 / -1

Many kids, even healthy normal ones, play Fortnite because it's free to play (can pay for things later but there's no upfront cost if you've already got a console).

The game can run on almost anything, including many low end PCs, phones or tablets.

We know nothing about the monitor. I found one of the ones I use on the side of the road. The kid likely didn't have a high end one.

Not sure what Fortnite legal issues has to do with this, the dad's just saying his kid appeared to be doing normal kid things up to that point.

He's not making it about his son, he's making it about all the other kids that appear normal but inwardly aren't taking isolation well.

7
Tryhardneckbeard 7 points ago +7 / -0

TLDR: This is like saying guns kill people, the signs where there if this kid was raging out at a video game and broke his computer monitor of whatever $$$ value. And the fact that this dude is trying to make some political point with this is completely disrespectful to the kid he lost.

Fortnite was a damn near copy of Player Unkown Battle Grounds prior to release. There was lawsuits brought against Unreal but the Dev of PUBG dropped it after the bills piled up. Maybe its my bias showing but personally I think PUBG is garbage as well.

As a father of two daughters, if one of em died the last place I'd even remotely think of talking about it is on the Internet. Let alone put a link to an article somewhere on the net that he obviously took time to write. I'd probably be five bottles deep and in my garage breaking shit and no where near able to talk to anyone about it.

When a parent refers to a computer screen as a "Fortnite Monitor" and not a PC Monitor or Computer Screen. Its a pretty good sign the kid asked dad to get him something badass to play it on. And badass is a 1ms Refresh Rate, 4k Resolution, Viewsonic, Dell, or other high end Monitor that is promoting whatever game as its "Made for This Game with Nvidia/AMD" Promo. Also, I'm well aware of the minimal specs designers aim for as it increases the customer base.

The downvotes don't bug me one damn bit, right leaning or not, this guy obviously is playing an angle, and children just don't up and off themselves for no fucking reason. That kind of hate and depression has to slow bake a long while for a kid to hate himself and the world so fucking much that he ends his own life.

2
EMP2024 2 points ago +2 / -0

Ah... This makes a lot more sense now. I don't have kids so I don't always think about what I'd do (or think I'd do) if I were a parent.

5 yo girl was struck and killed in aspen as a result of gov. Polish fast closing resorts In Colorado leaving 1000s stuck in town no increased patrols to handle tons of people all the sudden. Girl died 4 hours I to first close day. Now they want to go slow opening...cause they closed shit at a rate that left people still spinning. RIP young lady

I’m lost. All I got was that the resort towns were abruptly shut down. Then people were homeless in those places and a kid got struck and killed? Is that correct?

2
VetforTrump 2 points ago +2 / -0

That is some sad news for a father. Sadly the dem rats do not care a whit.

2
Trumpdidit 2 points ago +9 / -7

More fake news used to hype the fear and destroy the country. Obviously, if this is even a true article, the kid had features in his life, that contributed to his demise, he decided to enact, on his own merits.

The kid was 13, man. This wasn't a grown man with responsibilities that decided to abandon them. It was a kid finding a way to make his pain end.

8
Barthaneous 8 points ago +9 / -1

And at 13 were your friends offing themselves every which way?

I thought of suicide once a week for years while in school because i was the only christian and no one else had even the slightest desire to be good or stand up for righteousness sake.

There is modern theory that we are to be sympathetic to things which grown adults are supposed to be able to handle and have been responosble for since our creation in the garden.

My grandmother went through real shit with the Nazis in WW2. Being ordered to pick up dead body parts after theyve been torn by firing squad. She was 8 years old. Still alive today. She cant stand hearing about these people killing themsleves for such petty reasons.

I can give you even more examples of real shit and parents teaching their kids how to over come and disciplining them to be strong.

This man neglegted his kid . the kid felt no love and he had not the mind to overcome and thats all it is. And if it wasnt the fathers fault or the mothers than that kid was desired to kill himself and had hatred in his heart. For did he not love his own family enough to realize how they would feel? Did his heart not even consider it?

Give into weakness and accept it as normal then you will suffer the same fate.

Be strong and courageous and discipline your children and they will grow up the same way.

And lets be clear on this. If killing yourself outside of self sacrificing yourself for others was at all tolerable in Christ and no matter what you still go to heaven Jesus would have said just kill yourself. But he didn't.

Thats not the facts . you kill yourself you were full of hate and not love and thus you wont go to heaven. Do you know how shitty that is? Dont hate me for telling the truth. And dont hate me for not having sympathy for evil. I dont. I feel for those who are still alove but i dont feel for those who listen to evil and kill themsleves. I wont ever back down from that.

Wrong. Its not a sign of neglect...most games are designed to be addictive...and because they are designed that way people get addicted to playing them. They work just like slot machines but without inserting money to play....complete a task to get a reward or find out more...once you get the reward you want to chase that feeling again so you keep going....Kids and adults with great relationships around them can still find themselves playing for hours because of the intermittent reward schedule of most video games.

4
HungNavySeal300Kills 4 points ago +4 / -0

And most of these games are owned by Tencent which is a proud Chinese state company.

3
Harambe 3 points ago +3 / -0

Battle Royale is the LAST game type I would let my child play. This is poor parenting

2
flashersenpai 2 points ago +3 / -1

Most games are not designed to be addictive. Don't confuse obvious gambling structures like loot boxes with gameplay that is rewarding in and of itself. In fact, games which are designed in such a way to repel the player rather than addict them have become incredibly popular.

3
GodzillaTrump 3 points ago +3 / -0

I’m not confusing them...nearly every game operates with a goal that provides a reward or simply the accomplishment itself...our brain releases dopamine when we achieve these goals (when we win or obtain the goal) and makes us feel good. We then naturally seek to achieve the same feeling so we continue to do the acts that will bring us the feeling.

2
flashersenpai 2 points ago +2 / -0

That's a low bar for addictive. Chess, reading books, playing sports, having a conversation do the same thing.

2
flashersenpai 2 points ago +3 / -1

You're assuming that everyone should enjoy the company of their family.

1
deleted 1 point ago +3 / -2
1
Barthaneous 1 point ago +1 / -0

There is no need too. Because it's known to all who know God and have his understanding. And everyone you mentioned never killed themsleves. They had the thought of giving up but didnt. They called upon God for help and he delivered them.

I mean if you wanted to make a point on suicide it would have been better to use Saul the King of Israel (old testament) and Judas who betrayed Christ. Neither of them will enter the kingdom of Heaven and Jesus confirmed that especially with Judas. He said "it would have been better for him not to he born" but he fulfilled his purpose.

God. The creator of Life never gave the authroity for any man to kill themsleves. Except in self sacrifice for other. When a man gives up his life for his friends that is the greatest love. And a man who sacrifices himself for a stranger erases many sins.

Never be sympathetic to suicide. Let the dead bury the dead.

All sin seperates from God. Every one. That's literally why we all fall short and why we needed Jesus as the one true and perfect sacrifice.
