Walmart at least has flow arrows now. "Enter this way". "do not enter" to guide shopper traffic. In their perfect world we would all mechanically follow the path they want. But shopping is organic and influenced more by other psychological measures.

If anything, this may cause a loss in product sales due to people being made to avoid or skip product they may want to get.

In many stores now, yes. For the life of me, I can't decipher the thinking behind that, and I'm quite sure there's no logical rationale. It's just another one of these "we must do something" petty rules that aren't grounded in fluid dynamics or anything like that, but are purely emotional responses of panicked sheep.

Like the arbitrary 6 foot distance while standing in line thing, which is ultimately based on the ridiculous idea that the air somebody exhales somehow remains in that person's orbit as they move forward in line, and that the person right behind him is somehow not exposed to that poisonous air as soon as they move up in line and take the first guy's spot where he was standing just a second earlier. It's not even clown world anymore, just pure idiocracy.

That’s why they work at the supermarket and not an adult job.
