It's not a "Hail Mary" last resort, it's a first line treatment for people showing more severe symptoms. Of course it's not going to work if you wait til you're backed into a corner.
We have a family member that would be dead without it. This is the most appalling political show. If I had a corona virus death in the family I would sue over the lack of this treatment. Fortunately our family member was given this treatment albeit right before she would have been put on a vent.
I mean, people take it long- term for lupus or to prevent malaria, but I'm supposed to believe it's a grave threat when used against a disease that's also supposed to be a grave threat
It’s the same issue for all diseases with an extremely low mortality rate. Finding treatments that work beyond anecdotal evidence requires testing a large number of people in controlled trials.
If the death rate is truly .5%, attributing any treatment to recovery won’t be clear for a long time.
They must have relaxed the requirements for enrolling in the trial.
A month ago, they were requiring a positive test for COVID-19 to participate, and at that point it was difficult to get a test unless you were in the hospital.

HCQ is given out like candy to anyone traveling to any area of the world that might even have the slightest risk of malaria and has been for 50 years.
I took this drug in the exact same dose as recommended for CCP virus but I was taking it for auto-immune arthritis.
After a couple of weeks I got the occasional squirts. Otherwise regarding adverse effects, I would not even have know I was taking a drug.
