Even if I didn't think this was fundamentally amoral and a waste of time due to the potential for atavistic generations regressing hardcore enough to topple societies, if the people are registering disgust due to claims to divine authority or judgement by a party outside themselves, patriarchal or cultural values related to decency and virtue, or any other number of very acceptable things that religious texts convey to their worshipers like restraint over hedonism, this sort of virus could be one of the most disastrous and short sighted things ever conceived of.
If men specifically reject higher authorities but accept quasi-secular patriarchal ascendancy considered as moral in fundamentalist societies, they would be more likely to kill and more likely to do it not from an irreligious and therefore easier to justify binary standard rather than a spiritual moral one.
