So, no, they didn’t just modify the numbers.
What is interesting to me about this table is that non-covid deaths are decreasing. This could be deaths mis-counted, could be other causes dropping (like auto accidents), this could be other reasons.
Would be more informative if it broke down total deaths by all causes.
The numbers of deaths over expectations is only really bad in NYC. These expectations are based on statistical analysis that looks at the documented number of people in an area.
If there are a lot of undocumented people in an area not represented by the statistics, the expected death count is underpredicted. I would love to see a breakdown of NYC deaths by nationality.
