Trump had to build the pandemic testing infrastructure from the ground up. This is supposed to be Fauci's job. And he should have done it 20 years ago. The screaming banshees of the Left who scream at him about testing never mention Fauci's central role and responsibility in this. I think the reaction on this site would have been entirely different if seasonal influenza deaths were reported at 5,000/year instead of 50,000/year. As it stands, I can see why people would think this is nothing more than a bad flu season. The CDC's conflation of bacterial pneumonia and influenza deaths was and is probably the single biggest hindrance to people not understanding why this disease is so serious.

A combination of fake news media saturation and echo chambers lead to these false beliefs. 80,000 influenza deaths/year is widely reported in the media. We all get lazy and let the media spoon feed us information instead of going to the primary source. How many people will actually deep dive in the National Vital Statistics Reports?
