Death Certificate confirmations are 37K. The rest is "probable cause of death yet to be confirmed by coroner". As has been reported, hospital staff are under directives to say every death is now due to COVID 19. This is what's causing the discrepency- fact (death certificate) vs. speculatIon.
I do not agree with your take. Death certificate confirmation is much more real than some bean counter in a hospital who has orders to put COVID19 as the cause of all death. The "lag" is not that significant.

Go to the NYC covid data. They are the hardest hit and make up for the largest percentage of the US totals. You will find half of the cases are suspected but never tested. Then if you look at covid deaths, you will see around 200 had no underlying conditions. Once you look at the hard facts you can come back and talk about fake news.
