NY NJ and CT did exactly the opposite. They sent infected people to nursing homes and shut down our parks, beaches, businesses and leisure destinations. In Michigan, the owners of outdoor theaters can’t even get that Governor to hear their plans for a safe reopen... outdoor drive-in theaters!
Yes. But differently. In CT, they moved infected elderly out of their particular nursing homes into larger institutions, but still consolidated infected elderly and refused them access to their normal doctor and family members. The result: 77% of all CT deaths are in or from nursing homes (including these larger institutions). That number does not include assisted living centers.
These governors did this after being provided thousands of empty beds in field hospitals and aboard hospital ships. They did it on purpose and they infected and killed many more for Medicare money and political gain.
Michigan citizen here. In my area of the state (west side) the police and local governments have generally been pretty reasonable, in some cases even going so far as to say publicly that they won’t enforce any unreasonable orders from the governor. So while people are pissed at the governor, we’re mainly just ignoring her shit wherever possible and beginning to resume our lives. But I don’t disagree that things might get ugly if she continues down this path of stupidity. Maybe that’s what needs to happen though.
My local state park pulled the picnic tables recently. They were almost always used by family’s or groups of one or two to take a break after hiking or have a nice family picnic.
Super brutal reality here , but the old people "saved" typically dont work or add to the economy, but rather are retired and tax the health system. We've traded young working citizens lives for the older end of life group, its a brutal truth but my grandmother, although nice, cant make or create things to move society forward. That's why they are retired. Suicide. financial instability and unemployment forced on the working majority because of fear and complacency over a virus ( which always happens in sone way to society ) will reap horrible results.
Hey cool more wealth transfer from the young to the elderly. I love me some scams like social security, health insurance, and now this. Lovely. Glad my life is built around subsidizing grannies. Nice plan, if you're a boomer.
Why am I not surprised to see you hating on the elderly, Harambe, you liberal faggot.
ROLCON harder because you're STILL doing a shitty job. People who put money into SS every week shouldn't get it back? Should the govt just keep it and throw them out of planes when they get too old?
Fuck those old people. They had the best economy in history. They had every single advantage you can think of. If they still fucked up saving for retirement, they deserve to die on the streets.
I firmly believe we should abolish social security and Medicare. These old people don't contribute to society anymore. There is no reason why we should pay to keep them around. If they saved up money themselves, then great, they are free to extend their lives as long as they want. But we are we paying for it. Social Security and Medicare are where over half our federal budget goes. Over 50 cents of every tax dollar is spent keeping Grandma alive and not insolvent.
Of course old people make up the vast majority of voters so suggesting otherwise is political suicide. We are destroying our future to keep a bunch of old crazily irresponsible boomers alive. Makes my blood boil.
The vast majority of voters are old people. Old people voted in these young politicians.
Young people are too busy working to go on a Tuesday morning to go vote for their local city, county, and state level politicians.
Meanwhile these scumbag politicians go to an old people home with a dozen boxes of pastries and effectively buy their vote. They don't know any better.
They're not even protecting themselves. They've all been given a vaccine against covid19. Or did you miss the hot mic moment at the press conference about a week ago.
I'm a boomer, although barely. Me and my siblings pay several hundred dollars each month each so our mother can live in a nicer (not great but not terrible) assisted living facility. Never once has any of us, including my mom and dad (they've been divorced for decades) taken a penny from the government. We've all paid in boatloads of taxes. I'll never get back what I put in to SS, and it sucks anyway. It's like below poverty level type shit. I said for many years I'd give up whatever I paid into SS if I was just allowed to not pay into anymore. Now that I'm only 8 years or so away from getting some back I still don't expect it to even be there, and have planned accordingly. People like me are far more common for "boomers" than you'd think.
Influenza kills thousands of old frail people each year. The government never forced us into house arrest to protect the elderly population from their flu deaths, it was an accepted fact. Each year, thousands of old people die of pneumonia/flu.
Now, this Chinese virus scam is forcing healthy, vibrant, young parents to stop providing for their kids, put healthy assymtomatics under house arrest, making them lose their livelihoods and bankrupting middle America.
Fuck Fauci and Birx. They gave incredibly shitty and false expert advice to geotus.
You are absolutely right. The elderly are a complete drain on society and provide no forward movement.
We should just euthanize people when they retire. /s
Seriously wtf is wrong with these liberals hating the elderly? So people who work and prop up the economy their whole life and have money taken from their paychecks every week shouldn't get any of it back? If liberals had their way they would have people thrown out of planes at the age of 30.
If you look at the whole flatten the curve thing they were pushing in the beginning it wasn't even about saving people.
The original video stated plainly 'the same percentage of people ended up dying of the disease, but when the curve was flattened in some cities they didn't have problems with over flowing hospitals causing non disease deaths.'
Aka, unless you live in a clean room you will come into contact with the disease. And if you are one of the doomed, will die from it. The question was when and how it would affect everyone else.
Goalpost position #1: (15 days to) flatten the curve so we don't overwhelm the healthcare system.(voluntary)
Goalpost position #2: (30 days to) stop the spread so it wouldn't end up across the country. As if anyone thought that would work.(voluntary still, but coming with stern finger pointing and threats they alter the deal further.)
Goalpost position #3: just two more weeks™, oh and now we have curfews.
Goalpost position #4: shut down non-essential businesses and travel... for reasons. Mandatory curfew and public places off limits.
Goalpost position #5: stay at home orders under threat of arrest, defying all logic. (mandatory)
Goalpost position #6: no protesting allowed. You will be arrested and charged. Armed police to enforce. Arrests made.
If you compare monthly death rates this year vs precious, it's anywhere from a little above to well below average. So what we've accomplished is we shut down the economy to achieve nothing.
Now instead we are about to see pensions and retirements go bankrupt, we are going to see social services and charities fold, tens of thousands will end up with criminal records who otherwise wouldn't have, and all of those people who missed cancer screenings are going to have a MUCH harder road ahead of them.
The death toll and the "ruined lives" toll from the lockdown is guaranteed to outweigh the "lives potentially saved" metrics.
Yup, and it’s not just the unemployed whose lives are ruined, it’s also those in school preparing for a new job imminently, those under employed in transitional jobs or vocations, those who were making moves at an inconvenient time.
It’s much more than 30 million who are or will be affected, because there are so little jobs available, everyone is going to be fighting for scraps the longer this continues.
And to top it off, the above people do not qualify for any government assistance. Which makes sense as their circumstances were their decision. But now they are in a position that isn’t their decision, where no matter how hard they try, they won’t be able to secure money to live. So they might be temporarily okay, but we will see shortly once the savings, or resources for people in these examples dries up, many more people will be desperate for food and shelter. If the economy isn’t reopened immediately we could see a situation worse than the Great Depression, because large groups of people won’t have access to jobs and will have literally nothing.
those who were making moves at an inconvenient time.
My company is pretty decent which leaves low turnover. We get retirements in waves (like, 1000 people that were hired in june 25 years ago became eligible this february to retire) and a wave just happened. Half of them already left, the company is now offering everyone else who is eligible for retirement, with loose requirements, gets a nice bonus to their retirement package.
A lot of those people are in for a rough couple of years, imagine your 401k dropping 30 - 50% within a month of retiring!
The elderly are no longer valuable to society. The death tolls had to be increased in order to waste more federal money and make Trump look bad. Elderly, the weak were collateral damage. Communist playbook....they eat their own
I think it was the only call that could have been made, given the circumstances. If POTUS had gone by his gut (which was right), he would have been skewered because of not listening to the experts.
Now the experts are exposed.
Another by-product of all of this is that power-hungry DEMs are given light. POTUS has, in a very difficult way, taught basic civics to EVERY citizen.
I'm confident that POTUS already has a plan to get us zooming economically again. In fact, he has promised it. If these twits would get out of his way, and some seedy manufacturers would take his lead on America First, we could rebound quickly.
It might not be the way we were doing it before, but I think rejuvenating industries that actually BUILD THINGS is a better long-term solution for us economically. And I say this with sincerity, even though I own a small service-based business.
Yes, families bankrupt, businesses wiped out of dozens of people, depression, suicide, so a senior with health problems can die 5 years later than they otherwise would.
And now they are fast tracking a "vaccine" for the "kids" it is from China and they want to scare us into allowing them to vaccinate our children against a virus that is no worse then the common cold and has an excellent, readily available and affordable cure and a 5-minute test to see if your kid with a runny nose has Covid-19. A vaccine, once injected, can't be undone.
Last time I did the math, there were ~450 lost jobs for every "official" death. I'm sure the newer numbers of unemployed and more realistic death figures would make this number higher.
We wrecked the economy and killed thousands of people through depression, anxiety, obesity, and etc, essentially in order to gain senior citizens a few extra months of life. In trade millions will have a lower quality of life and life expectancy until they die, earlier than they would have died due to slowing medical research.
Bottom line, Trump has lied to. He was deceived by the Chinese, he was deceived by the World Health Organization, and he was deceived by his advisors. I don't expect his advisors to be clairvoyant but I do expect them to be loyal, and working in concert with the President. Fauci and Brix were not.
This is correct. Some businesses decided to shut down, which is their choice. Public spaces and "orders" are too far. However, aren't these orders on each state? We don't have a federal lockdown that I know of
NY NJ and CT did exactly the opposite. They sent infected people to nursing homes and shut down our parks, beaches, businesses and leisure destinations. In Michigan, the owners of outdoor theaters can’t even get that Governor to hear their plans for a safe reopen... outdoor drive-in theaters!

Cuomo openly killed people to pad his stats. How people can abide by this, I have no idea.
Its sad to watch really and its a sobering reminder that the America that resisted the British Crown is long gone.

A Stanford scientist called it back mid March.
”A fiasco in the making? As the coronavirus pandemic takes hold, we are making decisions without reliable data”

Yep, I have that one bookmarked somewhere. Thanks for the reminder.

Fuck off of this website, cancer.
SS is a scam. Always was.
SS is almost bancrupt, what happens when it runs dry?
Fuck those old people. They had the best economy in history. They had every single advantage you can think of. If they still fucked up saving for retirement, they deserve to die on the streets.

By and large, old people did not make the decision to shut down. It was the younger people in charge doing it ostensibly on their behalf.
Most nursing home residents know that they're not long for the world and would rather just see their family while they can.
The vast majority of voters are old people. Old people voted in these young politicians.
Young people are too busy working to go on a Tuesday morning to go vote for their local city, county, and state level politicians.

This is purely to fuck us over

Yeah, we need Death Panels. That's awesome. Where have I heard this before?

Its just another way to cull the GOP voting block.

But they slowly moved the window to "we can't let anyone get sick"....and here we are. Infuriating.

Hundreds of millions in the 3rd world will starve because of this climate change heaven
You just gave Bill Gates the Warm Fuzzies..

This. Lockdown has never been done before, for good reason.
Right, and the government all the way from local to fed is still dragging it's damn feet with meaningless phases, orders, and indefinite quarantines.
We are only just starting to see the real economic fallout from this shutdown. And if we continue with this shutdown, the damage will be irreparable
I did the math last night.
Assuming $4T so far in stimulus, that's $108,000,000 per death. That does not even count loss to the GDP, so probably way over $200,000,000 per death.
Idiocy. Should have just told the old and weak to stay inside and let the rest of us continue on.
Yup, and it’s not just the unemployed whose lives are ruined, it’s also those in school preparing for a new job imminently, those under employed in transitional jobs or vocations, those who were making moves at an inconvenient time.

The silver lining in all this will be manufacturing of many goods will come back home. Fuck the made in Chy-na bullshit.
Try more like every person we might have saved we for sure ruined thousands.
You will start to see the effects of everything closing by the start of June. People are atm holding out for some hope that things open up soon.
Those people are going to get hit hard by reality when banks start to ask for mortgage payments again.
Housing market collapse will be the start of the shit show. The oil market collapse last month is just the first sign of what is heading for America.
Agreed
Yes, families bankrupt, businesses wiped out of dozens of people, depression, suicide, so a senior with health problems can die 5 years later than they otherwise would.
The SJW's and Karens LOVE the #SaveLives tag.
Its one hell of a drug to feel morally superior, and they do really believe that they are heroes.
Always remember China is asshoe
Agreed. I hope Trump has a good explanation why he followed Fauci into this economic abyss. Setting up a fall guy??

Unpopular opinion:
With the benefit of hindsight I agree with you that the shutdown was not needed.
However, given the information the administration had at the time, I feel they made the right call.
This is correct. Some businesses decided to shut down, which is their choice. Public spaces and "orders" are too far. However, aren't these orders on each state? We don't have a federal lockdown that I know of
I'd be more open to this if they all came out, admitted their mistake, then did everything in their power to reverse course.
But they haven't. Instead, they've double and triple downed on the hysteria.
So I'm calling BS.
