While there are many unknown factors and details in this story, at face value I absolutely believe her, as my own family has behaved atrociously with my conservative husband. TDS is very real, and I mostly blame the media. However, I also believe that leftism attracts morally deficient people who are drawn in from “moral relativism” making their bad behaviors feel okay. So she sounds like she is better off without them in her life. If her family goes this direction, they will have to accept the consequences of no grandchildren and losing their daughter.
