Actually you have it backward! In the cities they don't need strong bodies to work the farms, so they choose girls over boys. In the countryside there are tons of boys and fewer girls. So you end up with a large, hardy peasant population made up largely of young men who can't win the city girls who can choose whomever they please and often look for money.

The problem lies with the meet processing plants being closed and meat inspectors not being able to come out and check the animals before slaughter. They have completely backed up the system and now farmers are having to euthanize their animals that were ready to slaughter because there is no one there to process them.

12
Deplora 12 points ago +19 / -7

Because the processing plants were/are shut down because of massive COVID-19 outbreaks among employees. Cows and pigs don't butcher and package themselves.

36
deleted 36 points ago +38 / -2
2
Deplora 2 points ago +3 / -1

The problem is, a lot of the workers (both legal and illegal) share living space with people who work in other settings, children who play with other children (and in normal times, go to school with other children), etc. The man who's working in a meat processing plant may go home to one or more people who change diapers in nursing homes.

23
HockeyMom4Trump 23 points ago +23 / -0

Just curious...does anyone know why the have to kill the animals now? Why can’t the pigs and cows stay alive until the plants are running again?

18

While that may be true, that doesn't explain why farmers are supposedly being forced to euthanize them. This implies the farmers in question are willing to keep the existing livestock, well, alive. Shouldn't it be their business call?

Either way, this "just in time" supply chain crap really needs to end.

I've seen (on FB) where the self-sufficiency groups have been buying animals directly from the 'farms' and processing the animals themselves.

The elimination of middlemen is a boon and I wonder if this might lead to auxiliary business or entirely new models.

8
tombombadil 8 points ago +9 / -1

I am not entirely sure but I think their meat becomes unpalatable and ranchers do not have the resources to keep extra livestock around that will be worthless. They are better off letting new animals come in with the hopes that once they reach the right age, things will be back up and running again.

There is also a process that animals go through in the weeks leading up to slaughter that I am pretty sure they can only go through once. They significantly change their diet and I am sure taking them off of that diet is not an easy process. There is only a small window during that process where you can slaughter them for their meat. Plus, I am sure the risk of disease increases as the animals age.

Has POTUS even said a word or is he still concentrating on China & Tarriffs, etc. and missed all of this???.

Does he know some of us BELIEVE this was all a scam to wreck the economy and his Presidency and this country and us and force us into no alternative but Socialism when the Left steals the next election when no one is trying to stop the voter fraud, just wishful thinking - hoping the governors do not MAKE us vote by mail, WHICH THEY WILL DEMAND in November, when they are still telling us we must continue to social distance due to all the new cases of CV (created by either lies or contamination)??????

Why doesnt he think that???? After all the other attacks on him??? It is obvious.

No one thinks it is a coincidence the day some states open partially, the biggest number EVER OF CV CASES SUDDENLY SPIKED in that state, or deaths, or some extraordinarily large number related to CV? Contaminated, or fake numbers by Left organizations who run the counting sites is more like it, or MSM LIES. Which is it??? The left would love to collapse the meat industry so we're all on a cheap kibble diet that their globalist big aggro overlords can produce for nothing. I will never, as long as I live, eat this fucking swill. Human beings evolved on meat. Our primitive ancestors were not monocropping corn 50,000 years ago during the Ice Age. They were taking down megafauna and eating almost nothing else. That's how we thrived and spread all over the planet. I eat shit tons of meat and almost nothing else and I feel great. The whole anti-meat tack is a crock of brainwashing bullshit designed to foist cheap, unpalatable, unhealthy processed sludge down the gullets of weak, stupid beta humans to make them weaker, stupider, and more pliable to the coming globalist order. Be human, eat meat.

48
ClownTamer 48 points ago +49 / -1

Argument’s against meat are hilarious. Every diet that lacks meat requires supplementation in direct proportion to how much meat it lacks. If your diet requires scientific supplementation to be remotely viable, it’s not by definition a healthy diet. Even with just vegetarian and not vegan diets, it requires a level of planning and nutrient combining of divergent species on a level no one ever would have done in a million years before now. And they didn’t have to, they just ate some meat. Most people don’t notice deficiencies for years in some cases because with some vitamins that’s how long it takes for your body to run out of its built up stores, which came from meat.

All hyper palatable and over processed foods are plant based. If someone were to go carnivore, they mostly just lose weight. The best is still a mix of both, just like people have being doing for fucking forever.

28
stratocaster_patriot 28 points ago +28 / -0

There was a famous former vegan (Tynan Daniels maybe?) who had been vegan for decades until her body began to fail in multiple ways. Her doctor told her to eat meat and it turned her life around. It saved her life. She wrote a book about it and made her views public and ended up needing to buy a gun, get an alarm system, and a pitbull to deal with the death threats. These people are simply unhinged and an example of how our society has become soft and lost.

12
ClownTamer 12 points ago +13 / -1

There’s also a famous case of newborns being fed vegan and dying. You have to admit it’s hilarious that vegans are out there making death threats and killing their own in an effort to morally support animals that at this point can’t live on their own without us. And they do it by eating exclusively plants grown in areas where countless animals die but aren’t considered.

“At least they’re not slaughtered and eaten!”

Yeah, they’re just poisoned and thrown out.

9
deleted 9 points ago +9 / -0
2
ClownTamer 2 points ago +2 / -0

Nobody ever thinks that shit through. There’s no setting cows ‘free’. A good portion of animals also eat each other for fun and nutrients. Plants are also living things.

It’s cool if someone wants to be a vegan for more reasons. The issues arise when they try to justify it in ways that extend beyond their feelings, which is when it all hits the fan. “COWS ARE CAUSING GLOBAL WARMING!!!!” Yeah okay. Because giant industrial farms for plants are making it better. Plenty of cow pastures are net neutral or negative on that.

7
PromiseImNotASpook 7 points ago +7 / -0

I remember one time in college, PETA members had a stand set up outside of a dorm and they were handing out fliers that advocated for the mass culling and euthanasia as pets to "liberate them from human overlords". No joke. They want you to kill your pets. They were shut down in about an hour after people started fights with them and girls were crying due to the imagery.

1
ClownTamer 1 point ago +1 / -0

We have things like that in the Bay too. People locking themselves in cages and covered in blood, paying people $1 to watch videos of animals being slaughtered, etc. Spray painting campaigns saying meat is murder.

If you’re going to be belligerent vandals, I don’t like your cause, sorry.

It was just the whole episode. And Rogan unfortunately didn’t destroy him, which is why people were mad. Rogan just let the Game Changers guy pick at the other guy the entire time and be angry. He didn’t spend 1 second of the whole interview / debate justifying veganism, just not picked at minor criticisms of him. It was a massive moderation failure on Joe’s part. Just imagine if during a presidential debate the entire thing was just Trump picking at Biden. Fun as that is, it wouldn’t be fair if both sides didn’t have questions and things to defend.

Is POTUS aware or oblivious or what? I am getting a little ... curious. Maybe that isnt the right word. We need to talk about this and POST IT EVERYWHERE, before they cull the entire country of meat for no reason. And they hae been plowing under our crops, saying schools and restaurants are closed, but people still eat at home! We still need it. and dumping milk, and killingmillions of chickens? No eggs, vegs, meat.milk, what else is there????? WTF is going on? And the sale of all the soy etc. to China for the first time . . it must be part of it ... that China bought it this one time.... to further shorten our food supply. POTUS just said last night he thought it was such a great idea to sell them all of that food. Cant POTUS see this is a trap to starve us to death???

8
Imransgarage 8 points ago +8 / -0

This was me and forced vax on T_D. This last few months and the move here was like the intergalactic brain meme.

3
MW23232 3 points ago +3 / -0

Well I believe you. It all adds up to me. The workers get sick in two locations to a huge degree: meat packing plants and and nursing homes??? Coincidence? No way. I think both were targeted. Then this year we sold all the soy beans which are not a substitute for meat, but a protein, to China of all places. For the first time ever. Is that why China bought it, to further cut our food supply????. Sounds likely. Yet Potus still thinks it is a good deal to sell the soy beans to China, to make money... but we can't eat money! It takes animals a year to reproduce. We can't just manufacture meat for the population overnight!!!! Does he see these things and know he must stop culling the animals, or is he oblivious to what is going on, concentrating on investigating China, still thinking it was an accident and getting back to work which the left is hindering at every single opportunity, is the only way and he doesn't even see what else is going on???? I think China and the Left, NWO, had this all planned out and are executing a nightmare on America. We need to get POTUS to see what is going on, or tell us he is aware, because sitting here waiting for the shit to hit the fan is going to kill people if he is unawae, & giving China and the Left the benefit of the doubt or does not see this at all. We will start starving to death a few months down the road. No way to fix that. And at this rate, it is entirely possible and the Left will do all they can to make it happen, to force communism or socialism as the only choice. How do we make sure POTUS sees this is a trap?? That it was all a trap??

THere is actually evidence that we ate a ton of vegetables too, just not things that we cultivated because we did't know how yet. Veganism would have killed us. The people who claim otherwise love say they believe in science but this a baseless claim. For one thing, do they really think we killed a mastodon and made coats and gloves for the whole tribe and just let that giant carcass rot? Those goes against their Native American worship lol. No, someone would have tried it out and gone, 'hey guys, this is the shit." Today we know how much nutrition there is in fat, hearts, kidneys, liver, etc. The kind of science a vegan does is 100x more stupid than the kind a climate scientist does.

1
MAGA4Ever 1 point ago +2 / -1

This simply isn’t true. At what point, and where, would there have been enough vegetation to feed people? And the civilization that would be able to continue running that without being taken over. I’ll wait.

You try to call people out but then don’t put any sources yourself. Use your critical thinking. Do you think, at any point in primitive human history, we had crops like we do not to feed people? All fruits and vegetables are seasonal. Animals are not. I’m not saying we are no fruits or vegetables, but to claim “a lot” is pure horse shit.

1
stratocaster_patriot 1 point ago +1 / -0

Nobody is saying they had crops. It's pretty interesting to me that you would call this pure horseshit because clearly you haven't even looked into it and are being defensive for some reason. Your "critical thinking" doesn't replace fact. Look into it and you will find evidence that plants played into the ancient diet. Hell, I live in the city and I can take a walk for an hour and find enough plants to eat for the day. As far as critical thinking goes, ask yourself why we would have ever decided to invent crops if vegetables weren't so important to us. Also ask yourself why our teeth aren't all sharp like other carnivores. We are omnivores quite clearly which means we evolved to eat more than meat which leaves us with vegetables as well.

I don't have time to educate you against your preconceived notions but here are some links to get you started. Mincing over words like " a lot" is fairly pointless.

https://www.newscientist.com/article/2115127-ancient-leftovers-show-the-real-paleo-diet-was-a-veggie-feast/

https://phys.org/news/2014-06-neanderthals-vegetables-evidence-neanderthal-diet.html

1
MAGA4Ever 1 point ago +1 / -0

I said they played a part, it was just small. Calorie density is not high in plants. They are deficient in necessary nutrients. The effort it would take to gather enough plant material, especially a wide variety of different plants, to feed an entire family, or small village would be impossible on a regular basis. They are seasonal. You’re just being a sheep.

1
stratocaster_patriot 1 point ago +1 / -0

How am I being a sheep for stating facts with sources that plants have always been part of our diet. What do you think people were getting scurvy from on ships long ago? Lack of meat?

Here is another source that shows that without pants you will be deficient in certain things. You see I've studied the topic and you have clearly not which is why you've resorted to name calling. Classic.

https://naturalon.com/10-nutrients-you-can-only-get-from-plants/view-all/

" The effort it would take to gather enough plant material, especially a wide variety of different plants, to feed an entire family, or small village would be impossible on a regular basis."

Really? So where is your source? Where is proof of that. Are roots seasonal? Nuts? Calling me a sheep sounds a lot like projection. You are being willfully ignorant in addition to misinterpreting what I've said, seemingly on purpose.

0
MAGA4Ever 0 points ago +1 / -1

Lol I just read all 3 of your sources. One of them found the first site with evidence...the second found two samples from a Neanderthal, but the article admits it could have been the plant matter in the belly of the animal. Then it says that they were mostly meat. Haha. You killed your own argument. Vitamin C is in meat, especially in organ meat like liver.

There are only two essential needs for humans, amino acids and fatty acids. Guess what has those in abundance? Meat.

0
MAGA4Ever 0 points ago +1 / -1

Again, I said they were part of diets, just small parts. My source is human history. Go to any wild place right now and find enough food to feed a family for weeks.

Scurvy was caused by multiple things, lack of meat being one of them. Did you know humans who eat only meat don't get scurvy? Of course you didn’t.

Arguing with people like you is a waste of time. You know you’re wrong, but you’ll keep holding on to your strawman argument.

1
Okuser 1 point ago +6 / -5

There's no reason to ever eat a plant when you have unlimited access to fat and meat.

Plants are highly toxic and full of natural insecticides and basically any plant that existed pre plant agriculture would have been fatal to consume.

2
FormerGraveheart 2 points ago +4 / -2

Well, dietary fiber.

-2
Okuser -2 points ago +1 / -3

having undigestible plant material forced through your intestines constantly is actually extremely bad for us.

having more shits does not make you healthy... quite the opposite.

people on high fat carnivore diets have bowel movements every 4 days on average

this is why all the vegans panic bought toilet paper

-2
MAGA4Ever -2 points ago +1 / -3

Dietary fiber is completely useless. Humans can’t digest it. The only reason you would need fiber is to push other fiber out.

0
stratocaster_patriot 0 points ago +1 / -1

None of that is true. There are plenty of wild plants that you can eat today that are not going to kill you. What they will do is give you fiber along with vitamins and minerals. You may think all you need is meat and fat but the fossil record shows that our ancestors ate a lot of plants. I'm not sure why you think we are similar enough to insects that a plant's natural defeses will kill us. Plants and fungus (many of them) are very good for us. Vitamin C comes to mind for one thing.

At the end of the day you don't have unlimited access to meat. You only do today because somebody farms it. If we were all to hunt the meat would be gone very quickly.

I have to say, this whole year has been very good at getting Dems everything they were selling with the Green New Deal. Everything. Coincidence?

24
incogneato 24 points ago +25 / -1

There is zero chance that this is a coincidence. The Democrats' only goal is to get rid of Trump and get their power back. They will stop at nothing to do that.

Russia Collusion didn't work.

Impeachment didn't work.

Even their filthy man-made virus didn't work.

So they will keep pulling apart the fabric of society in hopes that it collapses so badly we'll be begging the (Dem) government to impose socialism just so we can survive.

Do not fall for any of this, guys. Please. It is all by design, it is all deliberate, and it is all engineered by the Democrats.

We are in a war for our country. The Democrats have just chosen to infiltrate and rot everything out from the inside, instead of attacking with weapons from the outside. But it is just as deadly an attack and maybe more so because so many simply don't realize what's happening and still think the Dems are their friends.

THIS and the ONE thing we can do as Americans is VOTE LIKE YOUR FUCKING LIFE DEPENDS ON IT IN NOVEMBER (because it does), and bring your friends and family.

VOTE OUT ALL DEMS AND RINOs. GOP only, preferably endorsed by Trump himself.

We have a very small but ferocious group of fighters in Congress (Freedom Caucus) but we need OVERWHELMING wins in the congressional races (plus of course the Prez/VP) in order to not only advance the MAGA agenda, but to merely survive as a Constitutional republic.

I think the globalist left really did finally realize that if Trump wins another term ,they are fucked, and their takeover of society of the last 60 years will have been all wasted effort. So they are willing to go scorched earth and destroy EVERY element of our society if need be to get citizens so morose they beg for socialism.

VOTE LIKE YOUR FUCKING LIFE DEPENDS ON IT IN NOVEMBER (because it does)

just please for God's sake do NOT NOT NOT think of using vote-by-mail. If someone has to carry you, get yourself to your polling place in person.

The only purpose of Vote By Mail is so the Democrats will have an easier time of cheating their asses off and stealing the election. NO to Vote By Mail!

I mean China is considering worst case violent scenario conflicts with America. The globalists which is probably a lot of China are trying to weaken our country before the war.

We are more divided than ever (right out of using cultural Marxism as a weapon against enemy countries) we have financially devestated our economy after 4 years of building it up, a police state has been implemented in some places. Misinformation was given ALOT

Then you have bill gates everywhere you look and he’s cozy with the Chinese along with all of our media and apparently democratic politicians like Pelosi who said she doesn’t want to investigate China she wants to investigate trump, AGAIN!

I cannot wait to beat them in November. Don’t like to get my hopes up, but it will be a great day when they see the inside of a courtroom AND are actually CONVICTED and SENTENCED for everything they’ve done to this country.

Communists used famine as a weapon in the past too. Look at the history of Ukraine:

"The Holodomor (Ukrainian: Голодомо́р; Голодомо́р в Украї́ні; derived from морити голодом, "to kill by starvation") was a man-made famine in Soviet Ukraine in 1932 and 1933 that killed millions of Ukrainians. It is also known as the Terror-Famine and Famine-Genocide in Ukraine, and sometimes referred to as the Great Famine or the Ukrainian Genocide of 1932–33. It was part of the wider Soviet famine of 1932–33, which affected the major grain-producing areas of the country. During the Holodomor, millions of inhabitants of Ukraine, the majority of whom were ethnic Ukrainians, died of starvation in a peacetime catastrophe unprecedented in the history of Ukraine. Since 2006, the Holodomor has been recognized by Ukraine and 15 other countries as a genocide of the Ukrainian people carried out by the Soviet government." https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Holodomor

Half steer usually costs about 5-6 bucks a pound for about 250 pounds of assorted beef. It's a great deal if you have the freezer space.

TruthyBrat 1 point ago +1 / -0

FIL used to always have the big chest freezer in the basement full of beef in butcher paper when my wife was growing up. When she went away to college, she honestly had no idea how to buy beef in the grocery store. For her, "buying beef" was going to the basement and digging around in the freezer.

If you can find a source showing costco getting their 70M+ chickens a year from local farmers and switching to their own mega farms, then your point of "putting family farmers out of business " becomes a bit more valid

I think there is a difference between what most people think of as a "vegan" (OMG HOW DARE YOU EAT THOSE UNFERTILIZED EGGS THAT WILL NEVER AMOUNT TO ANYTHING OTHER THAN TRASH IF NOT EATEN?) and a "vegetarian" who simply doesn't eat meat. "Vegan" carries a certain "Karen" persona with it that nobody likes.

It's the same reason I never buy products with a Vegan label on them. It's not that I hate animals. I just don't like rewarding a business for catering to that particular entitled crowd. I can buy noodles or vegetables and read the ingredients like normal people.

Do you have any idea what would happen if people start trying to replace all the meat they eat with beans? It doesn't matter how much is produced already, what matters is how much more would be demanded and what that would do to the supply chain.

3
HungNavySeal300Kills 3 points ago +3 / -0

I have enough beans to make it my daily grain for a year. So I could start eating it every day and no one would notice for several more harvests.

I also horde quinoa and lentils. Probably have more than 100 lbs of dry grains not including rice. I'll get around to buying another bag of rice. The last one lasted me 2 years.

2
TennesseePride 2 points ago +2 / -0

Smart move by stocking up on stuff like that!

4
HungNavySeal300Kills 4 points ago +4 / -0

I do it accidentally. I bulk shop at Costco, and my friends ran a temporary food bank a few months ago so they had to get rid of whatever they couldn't give away.

Also, you should never worry about America's food supply in basics like grains or beans. Who do you think has been feeding the entire world all this time? Ingenious Zimbabwean farmers? Polluted industrial China? Lazy anti-capitalist Europeans?

It's America. If trade ever stops and we can't export food, we'll be stuck with another food to feed 3 billion people every year. It's why we're already destroying herds of animals and dumping tanker trucks of milk right now. Pretty soon we'll be plowing over crops instead of harvesting them.

The biggest problem in America is how to destroy enough food to feed entire continents without creating toxic fields of rotten food and meat with accompanying rodent and scavenger hordes.

And honestly we'll probably fail, there is just too food we need to destroy. Oh and our close ally Brazil has the same issues. Together we feed the world.

Tardigrade 2 points ago +3 / -1

Im not against eating meat, but id wager a lot of that isnt so much the goodness of meat but the fact you cut out a lot of grains.

8
rooftoptendie 8 points ago +9 / -1

keto cuts out all starches and almost all fruit. It doesnt cut out a lot of grains it cuts out ALL grains, ALL starchy veg, and almost all fruit. What are you left with? Dairy, eggs, meat, watery vegetables, and a limited amount of berries/lemons.

Liver is the most nutritious and nutrient dense food on the planet. Beef is one of the only known hypo-allergenic foods. Nothing that is NOT animal-derived has the correct form of D, A, & K (unless you count Natto on the K), a complete amino acid profile, B12, or heme iron. There are also vital omega-3's in meat. People who hate meat like to say you can get omega-3 from flax. That flax omega-3 has the completely wrong balance of EPA/DHA, way way too much ALA and omega-6, and because it's a seed, it also has anti-nutrients in it that prevent absorption of vitamins and minerals.

So... it is the goodness of the meat.

1
ThePowerOfPrayer 1 point ago +1 / -0

ALA can be converted to both EPA and DHA.

EPA and DHA regulate the blood and your body knows exactly what levels those horomones should be at.

Flax is a great source of omega 3 and toasting the seeds before sprinkling on yogurt, cereal, or cottage cheese allows for maximum absorption.

I went vegan for 6 months as preventative maintenance and it worked quite well.

I was never a "real" vegan because I wouldn't dump my leather belts and shoes into landfills and admitted steak tastes great and I don't care about the feelings of animals being harvested for food even when I chose not to eat any myself.

Everybody's different and has certain foods that agree with their intestinal flora.

2
rooftoptendie 2 points ago +2 / -0

I hope you are not assuming that I don't know that "ala can be converted to epa/dha". That is not an easy conversion for the body to make, and the sheer amount of ala required to produce adequate levels of epa/dha is obscenely high, and leaves you ingesting far too many omega 6's and ala to GET that epa/dha.

However, even though i disagree with you about veganism, I do agree with you about gut flora. It's cool to talk with someone else who 'gets it' on the gut flora.

For instance, keto is fixing what was wrong with me from going vegan. But I don't think that everybody needs to keto for optimal health necessarily, because peoples bodies and gut flora are different. I think people must eat animal products to some degree for good health, but going keto is only really necessary for people who have issues that keto can fix like polycystic ovarian syndrome, metabolic disorder, epilepsy, etc.

Am I the only one wondering how the fuck there's a shortage? If restaurants are all closed, shouldn't there be a massive surplus?

7
HungNavySeal300Kills 7 points ago +7 / -0

There is a surplus. The problem is capacity crunch in meat processing. Those restaurants don't require any processing hardly. Cut a cow in quarters, bag the organs, done. So let's say 5 cuts with no plastic or paper to wrap the parts.

But to process it for home consumers, they have to cut the cow into hundreds of different parts and each one needs to be vacuum sealed or ground up then bagged. So 800 cuts, grinding, and yards of plastic to wrap up that cow.

This times a million is the problem. And here's the kicker, those meat processing plants under huge demand, have been shutting down cause of worker anxiety. Our meat supply is being forced through an eye of a needle to get to us.

So all that food we used to eat at restaurants now cannot be processed and is being destroyed as their exists no capacity to process it, and the existing capacity is being shut down.

6
cali_wolverine 6 points ago +7 / -1

I put limit two red meat items signage in my department last week. Idk why Costco is being used as barometer. Costco is always weeks behind in implementing policies that I have been working under for weeks one of the biggest grocers in the country

Also the issue isn't that there isn't product, we all know animals are being euthanized, it's a matter of plants having production capacity reduced in some cases less than 50%. Vendors have also told me that now the real problem for them is that since oil production has dropped, packers are running out of CO2 for gas packs and packaging for the product. Another issue is that vendors that mostly supply food service are having trouble trying to switch to retail for our stores, which results in either buyers not buying from them or I receive product that gives me little time to process before spoilage.

2
rooftoptendie 2 points ago +2 / -0

I get small royalties on gas wells dug on our property about 10 years ago when fracking started up in our area. The company pays on the natural gas, but also by-products from the well. They process everything possible for max profit.

We buy whole chickens for $0.92/pound at Wal-Mart. We part, bag, seal, and freeze most of them. Others I spatchcock and smoke. We use all the backbones for stock and freeze it too.

If it looks like there's gonna be a meat shortage, I'll buy a side of locker beef and have it processed. I have room for another deep freezer.

6
jeremyskills87 6 points ago +6 / -0

Why can't they freeze the meat so the animal life isn't wasted? I'd be perfectly happy to purchase surplus meat for my freezer.

Think of the place you work in and one person gets the flu.

The whole place has to close down for two weeks.

The perfect bioweapon. The perfect BW is not designed to kill. It's designed to cause chaos and the population will do the work for you. You never need to waste resources trying to take the target country over.

Wait till next year as this year's crops die in the fields. Because one person on the farm got the flu.

If nothing else happens prices will go up.... and up.....and up.

2
JoePCool14 2 points ago +2 / -0

Not all places thankfully. An employee at the grocery store I work at was tested positive two weeks ago. The store was closed down the day they found out for a deep clean. Next morning, the store was open for business at normal time. The worker is doing fine, and as far as I know, no one else at my store has the Wu Flu.

4

3
tufftoffee 3 points ago +3 / -0

No kidding my friend. Not to mention as soon as everyone starts hunting at once, someone's favorite hunting spot will be wiped clean from hunting and any animals left mass-migrating.

On an emergency supply website I was looking at, their hunting and fishing starter packs were sold out. You know what that means? People who don't normally hunt will be at it too.

I pray to God Trump sees a way out of this. He is literally our only hope. Even after COVID-19 we still have China to deal with. Trump and his Admin wants to kick China out of the US bargaining table completely, aggressively, and we all KNOW they won't take that sitting down.

We almost did a couple months ago in peacetime, and look what they've done to retaliate.

Are there really supply shortages looming, to a sufficient degree that Costco needs to impose these limts? Or are the skittish masses just afraid of serious supply shortages, and trying to do with meat what they did with toilet paper a few weeks ago?

2
RedditIs4Retards 2 points ago +2 / -0

There's an actual shortage but only because farmers are being ordered to kill off their produce or have their licenses suspended.

0
Deplora 0 points ago +1 / -1

It's not that "farmers are being ordered to kill" their animals, it's that no processing facilities are willing to take the animals, so the farmers have no choice but to kill them. Farmers who produce animals under contract for large companies, which actually own the animals, are being "ordered" by the companies that own the animals to kill them. Farmers who own their own livestock and produce for sale on their own behalf, are making the decision to kill their animals for the same reasons corporate owners are making that decision.

Nobody is being threatened with having licenses suspended unless they fail to maintain the required standards for animal care and animal waste management. But as animals keep giving birth and growing, with no processing facilities able to accept more animals, crowding quickly makes it impossible to maintain legally required standards without killing and disposing of a large number of animals.

2
williammcfadden 2 points ago +2 / -0

Panic is panic, but with meat there's a limit to what people will buy. The goal is to increase buying demand to cover the lost restaurant deliveries, so that when the panic subsides the restaurant orders will be back online.

3
Deplora 3 points ago +3 / -0

Meat hoarding wouldn't get as crazy as the toilet paper hoarding got, due to both price and limited freezer space. But it could go far enough to cause problems.

2
LibertyStillMatters 2 points ago +2 / -0

Finding the answer to that would be more important than the roll call of people who have stocked freezers. Not sure if those folks realize that this is an issue for everyone and it will make every other type of food stuff scarce. Great, you’re good for a month, what will you buy then? This problem is also far more complicated for for those with families. I’m sure the prepper who is only supporting himself can be pretty smug now, but to invest in food for the next six months for a large family is cost prohibitive when you are getting hit with every other day-to-day expense. In all honesty, this is why things need to be opened back up ASAP. And if meat processors are playing games Trump needs to kick their shit in.

4
AbrahamLincoln 4 points ago +4 / -0

fuckin hunts point, dude. Did you know theres a little spot near there on the edge of s bellevue/north renton where theres a tunnel? Its like an old railroad tunnel, long out of use. Its hidden in an area with no development that is very lush with ground-plants, shrubs and vines, but few trees.

It's like I wanna say maybe 3-5 miles southeast of hunts point?

EDIT now that I really think on it, it may have been a mining tunnel. Coal? I can't remember...

rooftoptendie 3 points ago +3 / -0

Not on this map. It looks like the logical terminus of what that map shows to end at Hobart. I read about it in Sons of the Profits, and thought it was interesting because I'd driven that section of 405 about a thousand times, and never noticed it, so I started noticing when id pass that area on the freeway. Then I started asking around and other people sometimes knew of it.

It was to do with the old boom from like 100 yrs ago. I swear it was a coal mine shaft. So it would make sense that its not on this map. But my memory can't be trusted on that point. I just remember that the area where it was at is so covered up, no wonder no one notices it. And I'm sure the exact spot, which I never bothered to try to locate, is fenced off private property-like or something.
