I've been in the direct line of the killer bees for like 20 years now.

All I got was a bunch of nice bees that put socks on the stamens when they're with flowers.

So-called "Africanized killer bees." The threat was that this invasive variety of African bees that had appeared in South America would work its way up to the US, eliminating all the more docile bee types along the way. What happened was the angry bees interbred with the docile bees, and eventually the anger was bred out of them. Meanwhile, killer or not, the bees were just bees. They could only spread as far as the warm weather would allow them.
