No, they'd complain about how much money it cost to do something so unnecessary and then imply he owns the company making the tests.

You gotta doublethink like a liberal to predict them.

If there's one thing that's really pissing me off about all of this is THAT shit, yeah fuck the people protesting yet they have time to have dancing lessons while simultaneously being called "heroes", what a bunch of bullshit.

It's kind of sad that the Godless have such a gap in their souls. They revere the priests in white coats and nuns in green scrubs.

17 times daily* and each test will count as a separate person if it’s positive.

12
everylastjuan 12 points ago +12 / -0

We must have everyone plugged into some sort of testing matrix where everyone gets a constant test! Then the govt can tell you when to go outside.

Grasping at any and all straws to justify their 1984 bullshit. Including counting a single patient testing positive as multiple cases equal to the number of tests they took.

Open the country up and end this ridiculous bullshit.

9
thuggishruggishtrump 9 points ago +9 / -0

Wait what? If I understood correctly you're saying that they're testing a positive person multiple times and counting it as multiple cases?

12
Ithrowawaay 12 points ago +13 / -1

Correct. Disregarding whether it’s the same patient, they are counting any positive test as cases. VA Health Dept. announced this yesterday*.

Outlandish.

9

Yup, they just announced it in Virginia the other day

Havent they always been doing this? Ive always thought CNN and all leftist media was already psyop-propaganda. Have they turned it up to 11/10 now ?

Progressives: "you have to look at per ca-pi-ta!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

Also: "US is the worst, we have the worst deaths, muh."

Don't look too hard though because if our testing per capita is the same and our deaths per capita are much lower, maaaaaybe testing ain't the most important thing.

9
deleted 9 points ago +9 / -0
8
ThunderSizzle 8 points ago +8 / -0

Testing is rather pointless because it doesn't really change the diagnosis or the treatment.

My fiance tested negative for the flu and they still treated her like she had the flu.

8
Imransgarage 8 points ago +8 / -0

Right. I mean, if you test the symptomatic like they did from the beginning, then at least you keep the known cases away from others.

But a negative test can too easily become positive to give it a lot of value.

Basically, the negative tests don't really help, but the positives do. So testing has diminishing returns now that I think it through.

0
d_lock 0 points ago +1 / -1

Negative tests help. If every person that comes in with flu-like symptoms tests negative, you know a lot more about what's going on.

Basically, every test, positive or negative, gives you a better basis for estimating trends.

1
Imransgarage 1 point ago +1 / -0

Sure but adding another 10, 50 or 100 million tests aren’t as valuable as the ones we already have.

0
d_lock 0 points ago +1 / -1

It really depends. Each test, negative or positive, is less useful than the previous test, since you aren't adding as much data comparatively. But 100M more test would give you quite a bit more than what we have. The law of diminishing returns holds, but you are still getting some more information each time.

Now, when flu season ends and the China lab bat flu goes away, I'll agree with you.

4
NetscapeNavigator 4 points ago +4 / -0

Per capita assumes an even distribution of infection and testing, which is a shit assumption layered atop a mountain of other shit assumptions.

Testing has a big enough margin of error that it's only useful to track positivity rates at scale to determine if infection rates are increasing or decreasing in a region. Targeting test capacity at specific areas allows for increased fidelity where it would be more useful.

But that's still based on more shit assumptions and sample bias when tests aren't randomized and the selection criteria keeps changing as test capacity increases (inpatient -> inpatient + caregivers -> very symptomatic + recent travel -> mildly symptomatic -> anyone). Garbage in, garbage out.

At this point, the aggregate statistics are so fucked that year-over-year death rates are all that's left to gauge impact. Those stats say you probably don't want to be in a nursing home right about now. Everyone else? Be sanitary but accept that you're gonna have one more unwanted thing made in China in your life. Trying to hide under the covers until it blows over will leave you as nothing but a dusty skeleton before it happens.

2
Imransgarage 2 points ago +2 / -0

This was a pretty damn good post really.

I’ve seen the CDC data, outside of NY, NJ, MA the death rates aren’t up much.

It should be per capita if you compare countries of different sizes. Do note that either way will still show its growth.

Just like deaths should be per capita and you see the US being way lower than many European countries.

2
FragoDelight 2 points ago +2 / -0

Tests per 100k or per 1m is a better overall measure. Like, yea we obviously have more tests than Germany because our population is so much bigger.

That said, our per capita rate of tests is pretty darn good too. We are Equal to or better on that front than most of the west.

1
jdtiger 1 point ago +1 / -0

Both are important, but I think generally at this stage when per capita tests are still very low for any reasonably populated country, total tests is a better measure. For example, looking at Germany, we've tested 7.7 million, they've tested 2.5 million. That's 2.3% of our population and 3.0% of their population. To me, it's way more impressive that we've done over 5 million more tests and 3x their amount than it is that they've tested 3% vs 2.3%. Now if there was a country with 5 million population that had tested 2.5 million, then the per capita would be more impressive and important.

1
FragoDelight 1 point ago +1 / -0

But why is the absolute number more impressive? What does it tell us?

2
bit0101 2 points ago +2 / -0

It's meaningless because it hinges on the availability of accurate tests. Some of our first tests were not only inaccurate, they were contaminated with the virus, so we had to cut back on testing until good test kits were made. Some of the chinese tests were also bad. Is Germany still counting those in the total numbers?

If I start feeling flu-like symptoms, I’m not going to get tested for COVID (unless it manifests as breathing problems). I’m a healthy young person so if anything I’ll just feel under the weather and have a coof for a few days. I’ll just take off of work and not go outside.

I don’t want to delay my county from opening up, we’re already fighting fudged death counts.

2
dakin116 2 points ago +2 / -0

Do we even need the endless testing? Our numbers have been fairly static for over a month now (25k-40k/day). Surely it's not going to go up, if anything it should go down. Feel like the shift should happen to antibody testing so we can start proving to normies that it's not as deadly and that the current death ratio is only factoring those bad enough to go to the hospital.

1
The_RedWolf 1 point ago +1 / -0

Some takeaways:

Germany is still per-capita our testing the United States. (Being 25% our size) In fairness, Germany has had a very good response in general. Their graph shows they’ve been testing more often from the beginning.

The USA’s growth rate however should be commended. We didn’t have the best response early on testing wise but the graph shows what happens when we get our act together

The US is middle of the pack in terms of testing and deaths per capita. Also consider that most of the deaths come from highly concentrated hot spots like NY which are massively overpopulated (and usually these places are also run by dems, interesting....)

And all you hear from the libs and media is "Trump could have done better!"

no shit sherlock, thanks for the 20/20 hindsight. The question is, if you guys had the power, what would you have done?

Oh, we already know that. Pelosi was telling people to go to Chinatown as late as end of February. The NY health official was telling people to enjoy the parades in early march.

Meanwhile, Trump banned travel from China at the end of January and the first thing the dems did was call the move racist. You think the dems would have shut the borders to China earlier than Jan 31 if they had the power?

Trump could have always done better, that goes for every single person. Do we place zero responsibility on the governors and mayors who run their states and counties? Do we put any blame on Obama for not restocking the government cupboards after the swine flu? Trump had 3 years to restock the cupboards, obama had 6. Or for that matter, Cuomo didn't stock NY's government cupboards either.

I'm not saying Trump is levitating over the air, but the libs fail at being able to hold a perspective. if the libs would rate his response to the pandemic as a 0/10, then the democrats would be rated at -5/10, since according to them, Trump literally did nothing, while the dems actively told people to congregate in large crowds and thus spread the disease (and last I checked, doing nothing is still superior to making things worse). So even by their ridiculous standards, the evil orange man would still be better than their precious dems.

If a Democrat were in office Trump's exact response to the CCP Virus would be hailed as a historic American success. It would be taught in public schools.

US is at 22K tests per 1M, which is significantly higher than France (8K/1M), Japan (1.4K/1M), South Korea (12K/1M). Germany, which by all accounts seem to have done a good job, is at 30K/1M.

Also worth noting that mainland European countries have higher population density therefore require a higher test rate.

Admittedly, the US made mistakes in February. CDC's complete failure to produce test kits caused the scientific advisors and the administration to operate without adequate information. The private sector literally had to wipe CDC's ass.
