It does, just not like the redditards think.

You cannot stop the virus. You eventually have to leave your house for food and supplies. Guess where everyone is going? The grocery store.

The goal of the lockdown is to slow the spread, which it does. The reason you slow the spread is to flatten the curve, ie prevent everyone from getting sick at the same time.

The reason you do this is to keep your hospitals from getting overwhelmed. You want enough hospital beds available so that when people get sick they can be treated.

The key is that if you are keeping the amount of hospitalized covid-19 patients under a hospitals capacity you are good. So some areas may not need a lockdown. Others may need a short lockdown.

The lockdown junkies moved the goal to instead of being flattening the curve preventing anyone from getting sick. That's not possible.

The virus will eventually get everyone until we reach heard immunity or until a vaccine is created. The question is how fast it happens.

New York City should probably be left on lockdown for a very long time. They are the ones going out and infecting the rest of the US. They are the place where it is rampaging. A lot of other places, like Texas, are in much better shape.

Compared to other cities NYC sharpened the curve - so not buying it slowing down the disease. Sweden slowed the disease compared to Michigan - doing absolutely nothing.
