A door that swings out can be blocked by obstructions on the otherside that can't be cleared, as they're behind the now-blocked door. Our doors swing in so in an emergency we can clear any obstructions inside and open the door, so even if there IS an obstruction outside we can then clear that when the door is open.
Fire Doors in public spaces open outward because in a Mass-Panic event, a crowd could push someone against a door that swings inward, too stupid to give them room to pull it open, and everyone then dies in the fire. If anything, the orientation of home doors and public fire doors puts faith in the individual, but puts scorn on the reactionary mob.
And of COURSE 70% of Burglars enter through doors, doors are made to open somehow. What's he going to do, tunnel through a wall??? WALLS WORK, remember???
Youre hella smart. Well if cops have to use dynamite to start getting in doors the public might not like it. I honestly dc though, just pointing something out. Im glad youre concerned though, shows how important what I said is. Do it and tell me what happens lol. Since youre condescending though ill tell you something. You make less than 100k a year. So yeah, do the spikes thing, patent it, get back at me
Pretty easy to think of reasons to kick in someones door too. Had a partner at work for years, he worked for me for a long time too. He was a thief 100%. I had to let him steal something every once in a while because he wanted to steal everything he saw. Hed tell you the same thing. And hes one of the reasons the door facing the other way is better
Buddy im in oakland california. Idk why but my only friends are hells angels and big time drug dealers. They like me because Im a great builder, I make them a ton of money. Anybody I kick it with would tie you up and burn your house down. Nobody would come up to your door ever
And hes in prison. Was stealing copper from travis air force base. He had a few tons of it last time I saw him. He got caught cause he tied the main line from a ware house to his truck and yanked out about a mile of copper and got stuck in a field. You wouldnt have a chance with anyone i hang out with and Im the worst one cause Id think about it for a week before doing anything
Your friend kicks in my door, and then unintentionally steals eight rounds, smuggling them out in his chest. Eventually, the coroner steals them from him.
You replied to me with three different replies, I think you may have too much free time on your hands.
But there are obstructions outside my door because my house is on fire. There are also obstructions inside the door, but I can remove them after throwing a pot of water from the sink on them.
To be fair though recently a ups driver put a package under a guys doorknob and locked him in 😂😂😂 I still dont buy it though. It should be standard out and if it were standard we would as a society just keep that clear. Its not that hard to do for the increase in protection it provides
snow dirt sand bunched up rug wind blown debrie tornado hurricane storm surge flooding earthquake. I can think of dozens of reasons that would block an out swinging door and a door knocker will take the hinges off regardless unless you have a beefed up door. If you are going with a security door anyway might as well keep it swinging in
Thats not how a doors made. The middle parts the threshold. The door would have to go through the threshold. The actual door is bigger than a part of the frame.
You can think of a bunch of trivial reasons the door wont open in too. Rug, shoe, kid toy, dog there. Those are somewhat legit but by just taking the same measures you do one way you can the other
And when youre on the outside you can move that out the way and go in. I get that you can argue a lot about it, youre not arguing the fact the doors stronger the other fucking way
My back screened in porch door opens out and when it snows--no open unless shoveled. Of course, in a fire, we could just blast through the screen, lol.
Yeah but thats just due to standardization, if it was standard to put it the opposite way theyd change structure to allow a screen door. Just change threshold and it accommodates. As a carpenter its not a problem
Im a carpenter, 20 years. If I wanted a door to hold, its gonna hold. As a carpenter too I can break in most doors pretty easy compared to most people but Id just find a pop window first, most windows just pop out with a screwdriver if they open, you lift up on the sliding part and it clears the bottom. Its so you can take it out for installation or replacement
Some things are small things to us but theres bigger reasons for them. Theres absolutely no difference costwise reversing the door and besides us being used to it swinging in, theres no other advantage that outweighs the protection of it swinging out. Airflow is mentioned, thats a small fix that doesnt outweigh imo
Yall can say all kinds of things lmao. Doesnt change the fact that turning the frame around makes the door stronger and that its the opposite of standard construction standards for an occupied space. Doesnt change that its menial and allows them to kick your door in much easier. Doesnt change that reversing it changes almost nothing, but its facing one direction for a reason
In construction you have fire paths. About 3rd page on a commercial set of blueprints will show the fire route. This is a fire rated route meant for evac. All doors kick out towards the exit. This is so in an emergency you can run full speed towards the exit without slowing and even just shoulder the door, you can run into the door to open it or "kick route."
Our doors open in. Go look at it. Now reverse the actual door on the frame. See that small strip of wood? It would totally prevent it from getting kicked in. Since its tight to the door theres no leverage or buildable momentum, its extremely strong under that circumstance. So if your door were flipped on the frame it couldnt get kicked in. Maybe with a battering ram but 3-4 cops with sledgehammers? 20 minutes to beat it down if installed correctly. Theyd have to break the actual door.
Thats true fascism, and your house might be 40 years old
In Florida our doors open out, as a kid we learned it’s so hurricanes don’t blow them in and you guys have em open in to retain heat better or something. Not saying your premise doesn’t have validity, but adding some color
Its also better for visitors but think about that. Swinging in they can stand up close to the door and its umm standard now. But swinging out theyd have to stand back from the doors swing, which is a safer position for person behind the door

There ya go. Ventura just said theyre gonna remove people from homes over covid. Thats why you dont want it easier to kick down your door
Well if you got 5000 cops kicking in doors a year, save a lot of on the job injury making it easier to kick the door in

Tell that to anybody with a warrant out
Is that what they told you? Why would there be obstructions outside your door?
Pretty easy to think of reasons to kick in someones door too. Had a partner at work for years, he worked for me for a long time too. He was a thief 100%. If they are burning the house down wtf does it matter which way a door is swinging
Don’t fucking name drop clubs, jackass. Especially if you aren’t a patch holder.
Stfu maricon, all I gotta do to get a patch is apply. I make chapter presidents bank, at work and after

Mmhmmm. You must not know how much a life costs. Go to a poor enough ghetto 200 bucks might punch your ticket
You replied to me with three different replies, I think you may have too much free time on your hands.

If theyre obstructing exit you got a lot bigger of a problem than getting out since obviously those trying to keep you in are trying to kill you

Snow
Thats the best response yet, but again even with that you can do something about it. But thats the only logical thing anyones said
My back screened in porch door opens out and when it snows--no open unless shoveled. Of course, in a fire, we could just blast through the screen, lol.

Most doors in Florida open outwards because of hurricanes.
Yall disappoint. Ill do it I guess. To be clear though Ill beat my argument. None of your arguments actually defeat it.
Someone said the screen or security door but not why.
You cant open a door out if a screens in front of it. Its not possible. But none of yall said that so haaaaaaaa.

I dont buy that although theres obviously valid justification. A doors main objective is protection, its 3 times as strong opening out
Its also better for visitors but think about that. Swinging in they can stand up close to the door and its umm standard now. But swinging out theyd have to stand back from the doors swing, which is a safer position for person behind the door
