I was once temporarily banned from a forum for starting off a response with, “Oh for Christ’s sake.” I was told by the mod that the reason for the ban was that I could offend someone with that kind of talk... obviously him. So I told him where to shove that excuse and he permabanned me. The internet is really just a place where grown ass children can exercise a little bit of pointless stroke and feel good about it.. However, the bonus pay definitely colors the "volunteer's" motives differently. I don't see why they shouldn't pay taxes on their gains like everyone else who has taken high risk gambles with their lives has done throughout history. I travel a lot for work and guess what. My taxes are a pain in the ass because I have to pay taxes in every state I work in. That’s just the rules. And I’m guess those nurses got kinda fucked. Because I’m sure they worked for a travel company and that company probably paid for the their housing directly instead of paying them the irs max (tax free) and letting them get their own hotel rooms.

Considering “they took” the contract, I would call that a volunteer. They are “volunteering” for much more dangerous work while still getting paid.
If you had four soldiers outside a fox hole that needed to be cleared, and one volunteered to clear it out, he still gets paid for the duty.
