Vigilantism is illegal for this reason. These guys dangerously enhanced the situation with their actions. Call the police if you believe a law is broken and safely follow the perp if that’s your prerogative. I don’t know if he was a burglar or jogging but let police make the violent confrontation that they are trained for.
