Good for you, I, too,say a pox on masks. I did have some 20yr old soy male TRY to tell me I HAD to wear a mask{its 'official' now, Comrade Gov. Mills ordered it so]. I went all 'berserk Marine Drill Sgt'. on him, and I had no further problems

6
QuantumRemedy 6 points ago +6 / -0

I wear a mask. It i live in NC and I'm very proud of our state because it's not mandatory by anyone as far as I've seen and half of everybody doesn't wear a mask. If I lived in a fascist police state I wouldn't wear a mask, but here everyone's free to do or not do so and so I choose to because we live in a free country and along as no one is telling me to where a mask, I have the right to wear one because I choose to

I also have OCD so as long as it is a right and not a responsibility, I'm happy to do so for my own benefit.

Fuck your fascist state government! We have a Dem governor her i will vote against in November, but he knows his place just like Manchin in WV knew his

3
Varangian 3 points ago +3 / -0

It’s kinda funny how NC is Democrat run, but isn’t a complete shithole. Or maybe I just don’t get out much. It seems mostly okay, and people just seem considerate enough to be nominally law abiding without requiring overbearing enforcement. At least where I am.

4
QuantumRemedy 4 points ago +4 / -0

I didn't follow if this was true in the midterms, but in 2016, we elected a state legislature so overwhelmingly Republican that we had a veto-proof majority. So Roy Cooper was, at least for the first 2 years, nothing more than a useless Democrat figurehead who was fraudulently elected.

They smeared Pat McCrory for the "bathroom bill", which he signed but didn't author, but conveniently left out smearing the representatives who drafted and passed the bill. They just wanted a scalp and used the Liberal Stronghold of Charlotte to cause the transgender bathroom fuss. It was so blown out of proportion that they could steal the Governorship and normies would blame it on the outrage.

Change my mind.

when theyre being worn the way I see them being worn when I'm out and about, then there is seriously NO point to them anyway.

Either its hanging around their neck, or its scooted down past their nostrils so they can breathe or because it is falling down off their face... or else theyre sticking their hands up to their face to play with the mask every 30 seconds.

We are going to maybe have to accept that either there is a deep resistance to wearing one that causes this... or else the level of intellect it takes to properly wear a face mask is sadly lacking in a significant segment of the population.

26
MaxineWaters4Prez 26 points ago +27 / -1

If you don't wash your hands before donning the mask, adjust it after initial application, take it off and put it back on, wear it for more than 3 hours (5hr for N95), touch your face, place an object like a phone to your face, have a beard, or touch the panel at any time while wearing it, you've worn it wrong and defeated any perceived benefit of wearing it.

Even IF you've done all of the following correctly, you have achieved 44% efficacy with a non-N95, level 3 medical grade mask. Lower if an inferior grade like the level 1 yellow mask which I see most commonly. And if it's a cloth mask, the best you can hope for with perfect technique stated above, you get 3% efficacy.

Incorrect wear and use, especially by touching the face, adjusting the mask, or taking it off/down and reapplying, you've actually INCREASED your exposure by hand to face contact.

As a medical professional, it's exasperating to see people in public with masks knowing they have achieved no protection whatsoever because nobody outside a hospital setting is demonstrating proper wear. It's theatrics and while I don't fault the common man for not knowing these things, I know they are absolutely unwilling to hear it.

12
MehNahMehNah 12 points ago +13 / -1

It's just window dressing anyway.

10
smilieface 10 points ago +12 / -2

I personally don't believe in them so I just have a bunch of cute cloth ones that I wear when I have to get in some place.

I've also told managers in my backroom I refuse to wear one when I am working because it is hot, and affects my ability to use my power lifting machines.

Some of us have to for work. Especially in socialist ass places like california.

Then you don't understand - they're to protect others from YOU potentially spreading it, not to protect you from some mysterious airborne virus. Doctors wear them because they're in close proximity to patients with the virus and its a much higher chance of contracting it from a sick person near you coughing. When you're out in public, YOU'RE being the big boy adult and making sure YOU don't spread it to someone else. MOST people who are infected don't show signs. So you being a big tough "freedom or fuck-it" guy is plain irresponsible for your fellow citizen! All you need is a simple bandana or neck gaiter. Even a scrap of old T-shirt will do. Man up and cover your damn face when you are around other people! Take it off when you dont need it.

i have an N95 mask. i will wear it when near strangers unless i am eating. reducing risk is better than nothing

1
SordidPontification 1 point ago +2 / -1

I think that's the whole point anyway--to reduce the risk of transmission to others since there's a potentially lengthy asymptomatic period during which people may be infectious.

Wearing that mask may reduce your risk as well, especially if you're in an at-risk population, but the point generally seems to be to reduce the spread of respiratory droplets from people who are unknowingly infected.

Keeping distance from others if you're in an at-risk group is probably just as effective.

0
veteran299 0 points ago +4 / -4

i wear the N95 to protect myself. everyone else's safety is their responsibility

This guy understands - At least there one smart person here!

1
SordidPontification 1 point ago +2 / -1

...and again, you along with the rest of us are getting downvotes for actually considering this virus as something that should be respected--not be dismissed.

I think what bothers me is that I was very dismissive of it as "just a flu" early on. As I've read more research and have had a relative who actually contracted the disease, my opinions have changed.

The people here who think that herd immunity is all we need (ironically without vaccines, no less) don't seem to appreciate two statistics: 1) Herd immunity requires between 60-80% of the population be infected or have immunity and 2) 36%+ of the US population is over the age of 65. Herd immunity isn't going to occur unless we kill off a lot of old people in the process.

That said, data out of Germany is suggesting that lockdowns did nothing to slow the spread. What is slowing the spread is a combination of hygiene, mask wearing, and maintaining distance from other people. Until we start issuing mass prophylactic measures, or unless we literally put everyone 65+ in what amounts to house arrest indefinitely, these simple measures are our way out.

We CAN have our cake and eat it too. Caution plus hygiene means we can open everything up then deal with the people who DO get sick.

But TD has become so polarized over this issue, you literally can't have a reasonable conversation anymore. It feels like it's been overrun with shills trying to make us look like idiots. From both sides, no less--the people panicking that this is going to "kill everyone" and the people thinking "just the flu, bro."

Here’s the thing about Texas: people were jailed for a day or two before the Supreme Court was like “uh no fuck that— who is this Judge?” and then the governor was like “nope, no jail, ridiculous bullshit” and the lieutenant governor offered to take her place and did pay her fine.

Culturally, in Texas, this is not unexpected. But there’s another point to remember: Texas isn’t New York. Everyone has ‘high-capacity’ ARs and $500+ pistols just to go for a drive. Texas got a taste of tyranny, and it didn’t last long.

Go to a shooting range in Texas some day if you get a chance. Not a fancy indoor one, one on some old ranch run by a fat guy in a MAGA hat that costs $7-12 for all you can shoot. Hispanic Americans, Black Americans, White oppressors, women— every kind of person out there. Getting along, enjoying their time. An armed society is a polite society, and I’ve seen the microcosms that prove that. You can see America at its absolute best at a Texas shooting range.

Fun fact about Mr Judge, Dallas County State District Judge Eric Moyé, he is most surely anti-2nd Amendment but we have this little blast from the past:

From CW33: Dallas Judge Locked & Loaded After Lawyer’s Suspected Murder NEWS by: ERIC GONZALES Posted: May 16, 2016

DALLAS -- A prominent attorney killed in a suspicious fire, and now, a district court judge has extra security. It may sound like something out of a John Grisham novel, but Dallas PD believes there's reason to be concerned.

District judge Eric Moyé says he was warned of a possible connection between Tobolowsky's death and one of the cases assigned to his court.

Judge Moyé posted a statement on social media saying shortly after he was warned to be careful, a car appeared to follow him on the tollway and pulled up next to him. Moyé, who is licensed to carry a firearm in Texas, says he took out the gun and put it on the passenger seat.

The other vehicle, he says, moved on.

Cruz came out only after it was safe to do so. All salons in Texas are now officially back open as of today. There is virtually no risk for Cruz to come out in support of this American hero now. Where was he when the going was tough earlier this week?

Shelly Luther is a legend and a true American patriot fighting for freedom. Cruz on the other hand, is a grifter.

It would have been better for him to do nothing at this stage. Visiting her in jail would have been something. Offering to step in and actually put up her fines would have been something.

Cruz isn't an actual fighter. He's the type of man who simply shows up after all the blood has been spilled on the battlefield and stands at the front to get a medal.

Not sure where I come down on this yet, but worth noting is that he praised her for her actions before it was reopened. Also worth noting is that as a business owner, do I really care if a politician does this? Sure there was a fine (covered by someone else) and a week of jail time. But now the business has fantastic marketing to all patriots, Cruz is providing even more marketing so it is not lost, and by doing it today he sets the example for others to follow in kind.

I hate grandstanding as much as the next person, but it is not on senators to disrespect, break, or enforce laws even if they are viewed as unlawful. It is their job to change the laws according to the will and needs of the people. The salon owner showed she has much more power than we give credit to the average person and she has helped enact real change. The patriots rallying behind her show a message to our representatives what we actually want.
