IDK, I have a different theory. From the beginning (eg 2015, or as soon as it became apparent Trump was possibly to be the candidate), I think they wanted to frame him with a Trump/Russia collusion story.
They tried many times. Popadopoulus. Trump Tower meeting. $2m for emails to Roger Stone. I’m sure there were others. At every turn, the Trump campaign proved to have something they didn’t expect (based on their own behaviors): honesty and integrity.
Anyway, I think the DNC hack was fake - intentional. They knew what was in it - slightly embarrassing stuff, but nothing big - and they intentionally leaked it to WikiLeaks and tried to make it look like Russia did it.
One file was release (just one). It was a supposed oppo research on Trump. Get it? The one and only file was meant to plant a fake alibi about the dossier (“you can see our oppo research - it wasn’t a dossier”).
That’s why the FBI didn’t want to touch the servers. They knew the hack was a lie, by letting a third party examine, FBI gained “plausible deniability”.
Point is, I think they had loyal Seth Rich go to WikiLeaks with the data, knowing he could be trusted to keep it quiet by saying they wanted to blame “Russians”, then had him killed when he was no longer useful.
I can’t prove it, but it just makes a lot more sense when you look at all that went on, and the timeframes, if the “hack” was fake and pre-planned.
You're giving them waaay too much credit. These people are stupid. At no point did they think she would lose. They were just spying on his campaign because they wanted to spy on his campaign. It wasn't until she lost that they panicked. I didn't hear a freaking word about Russia until the day after the election, because that's when the "insurance policy" went active. I agree with you that they made the DNCLeaks. That was the DNC trying to get ahead of Wikileaks. I think that again shows how stupid they are. These are would-be-selling-meth-in-trailer-park-if-not-for-nepotism morons. I know it's hard to think like a dumbass, but you've got to think like a dumbass.
Edit: Shills are here. I upvoted your comment and it's sitting at 1.
Well, you could be right, obviously, we don’t know. File it under the “possibilities to think about as new data emerges” category.
But James Comey is a braggart. He testified under oath before Congress, that he felt that keeping an investigation secretive until after the election would serve to de-legitimize a Presidency. He’s bragging in front of Congress about de-legitimizing Trump’s Presidency!
Of course, he did it as a way of explaining why he announced the re-opening of Hillary’s email investigation. That was made public. Russia kept quiet. Why? According to Comey, to de-legitimize Trump.
One more “think about this” theory before I go: the whole plan for the dossier was to have Steele (a British citizen) leak the dossier to the press in the weeks before the election. Then the FBI would come out with a non-denial denial (“yes we’ve seen the dossier, and while we’ve verify many parts of it, we cannot say if it is 100% accurate at this point or not”). Trump would lose, and the Russia issue would be dropped.
The panic set in in late Oct when Steele could not get the press to publish it.

We do know. I just can't get anyone to actually sit through 30 minutes of a documentary where I prove it.
