Seems like they're really trying to not just demoralize Americans, but shifting the blame for the pandemic on America, using it as a justification for making the US "take responsibility":
The coronavirus pandemic is the greatest failure of leadership in the western world since the two World Wars. Add it to the Cuban missile crisis, Vietnam, the 9/11 fiasco and the 2008 economic crisis, and you begin to get the picture.
We will now likely have the misfortune of navigating another unprecedented economic recession thanks to what is sure to be a continued government mismanagement of this pandemic.
The only thing I agree with in that article is criticism about the lack of preparedness. The stockpiles of PPE should not have been allowed to be depleted and they should have been rotated/maintained so when they were needed the goods were useable.
I'm not sure who is at fault there but I'm going to go with lazy career bureaucrats.
But even then the Trump admin stepped up and worked with industry to get needed materials manufactured, in some cases using the DPA to force compliance.
