First contact is always the worst because we have no defense, so if we compare this outbreak to the first time humans caught influenza it has only about 1% of the lethality. It's not "just a flu", it's more like "just a common cold". There's no good reason at all to accept that the loss of liberty has to be some kind of "new normal", especially when we didn't react like this to a disease that was more deadly by orders of magnitude. What we're seeing now is complete irrational hysteria. If our ancestors had been such giant pussies we'd all be speaking German right now.
