Can anyone explain to me the insane push to convict him? Of all the crimes one could commit, lying to the FBI is rather benign. Furthermore, it's not like "he lied" to cover up another crime or something. "He lied" about discussing sanctions with an ambassador. Why so desperate to get a guilty sentence? Because I seriously doubt a three-star, thirty-year veteran would spend a single day in club fed when PapaD was sentenced two weeks and a $9,500 fine for the same crime.
Multiple reasons. First of all, It completely discredits him in the eyes of the broader public - no matter what he would say he’d be called a liar or criminal. Then, if he’s convicted, he would no longer be able to serve as the DNI for trump, nor would he be able to get the necessary security clearance to be able to get to the actual dirt and expose it. Basically, this whole charade was to keep Flynn from having access to the records he needs to out Obama and co
He went to Washington and told them that they were getting US soldiers killed trying to play war general from DC instead of letting the generals do it.
He was against the Iran Deal.
He wanted to audit the dark money in the federal budget.
He warned that the surveillance state had too much power and could be misused by presidents.
He has already said all this. It doesn't matter about preventing him from saying this. The American public doesn't care. But Flynn isn't SOS is he?

Clearly there was an effort to convict anyone in Trump's circle on anything they could come up with. They certainly assumed that if they threatened enough people, somebody would either:
make up some shit to throw Trump under the bus
or someone would have some legitimate dirt on Trump

He’s got dirt on Obama and the deep state. PapaD doesn’t
I get that, but how would this guilty sentence prevent him from exposing anything?

Huh... didn't know something like that would prevent someone from a cabinet position or a security clearance. That would certainly explain it then.
Reposting this for you.

First thing Trump should do is make him SOS.

Because if they weren't going after him, the country would have had 3 years of Flynn making it great
Martha Stewart has entered the chat...
Perhaps you're making a joke I'm not getting, but she was indicted and convicted for more than one count of lying to the FBI.
Fair. That's the one we all remember though :)

Neither happened.
