If memory serves, Chandra levy was offed by a guy that had committed similar crimes in the same park I'm the weeks leading up to her death. The DA did their best to bury that, and when called on it by the press, said it was happenstance. 9/11 happened and we all stopped giving a shit, but ultimately they were like, OK, so it WAS this other guy!!

Again, if I'm remembering correctly.

They found a random illegal alien to blame. Supposedly he was fingered (not like by Creepy Joe Biden) by a jailhouse informant who was full of shit. The conviction was overturned and they deported him instead of trying him again.

I came to post what AlohaSnackbar said, but I had forgotten about the verdict being overturned. Thanks for your good recall on this.

Meh, no harm - I'm sure he's been back at least 15 times since then...

That's right, now I remember. Thanks. Of course, that just means they grabbed the wrong piece of shit for all the crimes rather than it not being connected. Prosecutors have for too long sought victory over truth, and a string of incidents where you found the body is pretty damn hard to justify not considering when there's no physical evidence, testimonial evidence, or really anything other than a titillating tale of a trust

From Wikipedia:

Guandique denied attacking Levy. On November 28, the FBI had the informant take a polygraph test, which he failed. A polygraph test on Guandique, administered on February 4, 2002, returned inconclusive results that were officially ruled "not deceptive". Because neither the informant nor Guandique was fluent in English, D.C. chief detective Jack Barrett said that he would have preferred polygraph tests to have been administered by bilingual examiners, who were unavailable at the time

How do you not find a bilingual examiner in DC?

This was during the halcyon days where having an illegal alien nanny was enough to force resignations, for BOTH parties.

Ah the good old days, when paying illegals wasn’t a party platform.

WTF happened here.

Ingmar Guandique, a 20-year-old from El Salvador who was also being held in the jail, told him that Condit paid him $25,000 to kill Levy.
