I have worn a beard since 2003 and as much as I hated the way they turned into a trendy thing, I absolutely love that they are now just a thing that men do again instead of a fashion statement.
That said, unless you're a biker, a long beard is still the stupid fashion hipster trend and no man of culture and refinement would ever wear a beard longer than his hair, which should also be kept short and clean-cut.
Wear a beard. Let it be thick and full, lush and majestic. But keep it short and tidy.
I can't figure out if my upper cheek line is significantly higher and less defined than most guys or if I'm supposed to be trimming a line about half way down.
My beard is pre-covid

If the beard is wearing you, it's time to shave.

I always grow mine for three weeks or so and then shave it down with an electric, never go close shave - never been quite this long
